NBCC is currently seeking dynamic and competent leaders for the position of Community College Instructor. This is to build a pool of casual instructors to teach in the Practical Nurse and the Personal Support Worker -Acute Care programs at NBCC Saint John, Allied Health campus.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Department Head, as a member of the faculty team, you are responsible for planning and preparing instructional materials and resources; establishing and managing a positive learning environment; instructing and evaluating students; building and sustaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders; as well as other related duties.

The candidate will supervise, counsel, guide and evaluate students during their clinical rotation in a hospital, nursing home or in the community and may involve shift work. As well, successful candidates will have the knowledge, skills, and ability to teach Practical Nurse and Personal Support Worker students in the classroom and in a skills lab setting. Specific instructional areas and courses within the program may include but are not limited to: anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, elder nursing concepts, community nursing concepts, medication administration, nursing skills, abnormal psychology, medical terminology, pediatrics and maternal newborn concepts, interpersonal communication, health care in Canada and healthy living. The successful candidate will be willing and able to integrate technology and active student learning techniques into teaching practices.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for this opportunity include a Bachelor of Nursing degree with a minimum of three (3) years of recent and related nursing experience and must be currently registered with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick or be eligible for registration; OR a two (2) year Diploma of Nursing with a minimum of five (5) years of recent and related nursing experience and must be currently registered with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick or be eligible for registration; OR hold the designation of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience and a valid license issued by the Association of New Brunswick Licensed Practical Nurses or be eligible for registration. Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of immunization and criminal background check. Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet these qualifications on their resumes.

Written and spoken competence in English is required.

Preference may be given to candidates who have experience teaching in a post-secondary environment.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.

NBCC offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package that includes a competitive salary for this position ranging from $27.21 to $38.34 hourly. Successful candidates may be eligible for a higher maximum step, up to $41.88 hourly, based on their level of post-secondary education. This is a unionized position where the terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees collective agreement (Education - Instructional Group) for the College.
