Job Information and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Manager, Learning and Development, the Instructional Designer, Learning Technologies will:

Educational Program Development:

  • Create educational and training programs for faculty, students, professionals, and staff.
  • Develop and deliver content through various formats, including classroom based, online classes, and self-study modules.
  • Curriculum Design and Development:
  • Design, develop, modify, and organize curriculum to meet the diverse needs of learners and learning environments.
  • Utilize applicable learning technologies to enhance curriculum delivery and engagement.
  • Technology Needs Analysis:
  • Conduct analysis and evaluation to identify and request learning technologies that satisfy curriculum development needs.
  • Ensure the selected technologies align with instructional design principles and best practices.
  • Write and prepare educational technology tool proposals and reports to support and enhance teaching and learning, various types of programs, and academic supports.
  • Application of Learning Technologies:
  • Apply learning technologies as tools to support instructional design principles, pedagogy, andragogy, and practices.
  • Use innovate and ever-changing technology to create, enhance, improve, and adapt educational and training programs.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Work as a member of the Learning and Development team under the teaching and learning centre.
  • Collaborate with faculty and colleagues to analyze instructional and course outcomes.
  • Utilize accepted instructional theories and principles to produce learning materials.
  • Incorporate adult learning principles when designing and developing instructional materials.
  • Provide expertise in planning, developing, and delivering learning experiences in various learning spaces, particularly online.
  • Design and develop learning content, interactive activities, and assessments with faculty and colleagues for use in various learning environments.
  • Design a variety of instructional materials for learner centred courses, online programs, online-based learning aids, and other programs as needed.
  • Redesign courses for online learning while adhering to institutional academic goals.
  • Recommend changes to existing courses, including technology and instructional methods, to better adhere to course delivery options.
  • Design and deliver online and instructor-led training.
  • Analyze and apply trends in learning techniques and technologies.
  • Support faculty and colleagues in troubleshooting teaching approaches and technologies.
  • Write instructional text or scripts in written, audio, and video formats.
  • Brainstorm creative learning techniques and innovative instructional strategies.
  • Analyze courses to ensure they meet or exceed institutional standards and provide reports for accreditation reviews.
  • Adapt coursework to assist learners with disabilities, ensuring equality in learning opportunities.
  • Stay current on new, emerging and trending instructional technology tools and LMS features and tools to make recommendations and advocate for adopting tools to offer the best learning experience.
  • Consult with colleagues at external institutions.
  • Collaborate on external learning projects and participate in professional development opportunities.

Experience and Education Requirements

To be the successful Instructional Designer, Learning Technologies you will have:

  • Proven experience in instructional design and curriculum development.
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field such as Adult Education, Curriculum Design,
  • Computer Science, Business, or Organizational Development.
  • Expertise in utilizing various learning technologies and tools.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles, pedagogy, and andragogy.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Must be able to work independently with strong people skills.
  • Exceptional project management, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Adult Learning principles, Universal Design for Learning, EDIA, and experiential learning styles.
  • Experience with streaming and casting audio and video, using different file types and formats, operating online conference software, HTML 5, Java Script, Articulate, and Camtasia
