Reporting to the Director of Institutional Analysis and Planning, the Institutional Researcher provides analytic support to aid decision-making by senior management and departments in areas related to institutional management, policy formulation, government funding, program review processes, problem finding and problem solving and planning with particular reference to student enrolment. The Institutional Researcher designs, develops and implements processes and systems to improve the quality and accessibility of institutional data and provides proactive, timely and accurate information, advice/guidance and reports. The Institutional Researcher also acts as a resource to other sectors of the University (e.g. labour relations, strategic planning implementation) in the identification of best practices at other institutions in Canada and elsewhere. The Institutional Researcher will provide information and advice which will play a role in shaping the directions for the University, and as such the incumbent must exhibit a high degree of competence and integrity in the performance of the role in order to mitigate risk to the University.

Qualifications

To be the successful Institutional Researcher, you will possess a Master's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related quantitative research field with a minimum of three (3) years OR a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related quantitative research field with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. The successful candidate must have experience writing reports from a relational database and query structure, writing scripts in R, Python, PHP and/or JavaScript, experience using APIs to retrieve and parse data and experience coding in at least one language. The successful candidate will have at least one year of experience in data modelling and database schema experience and demonstrated experience using quantitative analytical software and data management tools such as Excel, Access SPSS SQL and Microsoft package. Excellent analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work independently and in a team and effective communication skills including the ability to clearly and concisely express complex concepts in simple terms and communicate technical information to non-technical staff will be required in this role. Demonstrated skill and experience in data manipulation, management and analysis and knowledge of project management principles and experience completing complex projects within timelines will round out your qualifications in this role. Assets for this position include working in a university environment and experience working with Banner/Oracle databases.
