Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Student Culture and Experience, the Indigenous Student Advisor is responsible for supporting and engaging Mi'kmaq and all other Indigenous students. The position will be empowered to develop programming and services for Indigenous students. The position will make connections with other areas of the University to facilitate transition into University as well as developing culturally respectful programming to engage Indigenous students in University life throughout their University years. The position will provide guidance as appropriate to other administrative areas of the University on how to better develop programs and services to effectively meet the needs of Indigenous learners. The role will develop strong and open relationships with external Mi'kmaq and other Indigenous communities, band offices, funding agencies, and similar roles at other post-secondary institutions.

Group affiliation for this position is with the Administrative, Professional, Confidential (APC) Group. The position is evaluated at a Group 4 (salary range $49,745- $64,106). Salary scale can be viewed here.

Qualifications

The successful Indigenous Student Advisor will possess an undergraduate degree, a minimum three (3) to five (5) years of directly related experience, preferably at the post-secondary level, working with Indigenous peoples or organizations. As the successful candidate, you will have proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to participate in consultative decision-making, demonstrated skills in training and program evaluation, and strong presentation and facilitation skills. You will also have excellent knowledge of MS Office,, internet and e-mail applications, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and strong organizational and event planning skills. Background in cross cultural communication would be considered an asset. In keeping with the principles of Employment Equity, preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous.
