The Opportunity:

Port Saint John is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual as a Human Resources Coordinator for a 15-month contract term. As a Human Resources Coordinator at Port Saint John, you will bring your passion for people and connection everyday by being involved in various HR activities! Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you will play a crucial role in elevating workplace culture, supporting an amazing team, ensuring smooth HR operations, and shaping the future of HR at Port Saint John!

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Your Focus:

  • Manage the onboarding and offboarding of all employees.
  • Facilitate full cycle recruiting, including candidate screening, interviewing, and job offering.
  • Manage the student experience program.
  • Facilitate benefits coordination, including liaising with benefits carriers and employees.
  • Work closely with payroll administrator regarding changes to employee information including, salary, benefits, arrivals, and departures.
  • Advise employees on the interpretation and administration of human resources policies, regulations, and procedures to promote a better understanding of human resources practices and ensure adherence to accepted policies and principles.
  • Support with policy review & development.
  • Support the management of the training budget, including connecting employees to training and development opportunities and funding opportunities.
  • Organize internal training events and coaching opportunities.
  • Organize staff meetings and staff events.
  • Support with strategic planning initiatives and special projects.
  • Participate in relevant workplace committees and support employee wellness programs.
  • Develop and manage job descriptions and performance evaluations for all employees.
  • Assist in the Collective Bargaining process and support a healthy industrial relations program.
  • General administration functions, including office management responsibilities, as well as support for the budget management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, inculding the application of the Canada Labour Code.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in a human resources or related role in a progressive and dynamic workplace; experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management. CPHR not required but considered an asset.
  • Eligible to obtain Marine Transportation Security Clearance through Transport Canada.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the fundamentals of HR Management and related legislation.
  • Strong relationship building abilities, the ability to develop and implement goals and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and capable of prioritizing work as required.
  • Ability to work in a confidential manner with sensitive information.
