Clearwater has a long tradition of partnering with First Nations. As part of the Offshore Clam Partnership Landmark Agreement, the

14 Mi'kmaq communities and Clearwater have begun to lead the development of a new model of fishing industry/First Nations collaboration that will create valuable full time employment opportunities for members of participating Mi'kmaq communities. Recently, Clearwater Seafoods announced the sale of Clearwater to a partnership between FNC Holdings Limited Partnership,

representing a coalition of Mi'kmaq First Nations and Premium Brands Holdings Corporation. The Mi'kmaq First Nations Coalition and Premium Brands each acquire 50% ownership in Atlantic Canada's largest fishing company.

Clearwater Seafoods' Human Resources Department requires a Full Time Human Resources Business Partner located at our Highland Fisheries facility in Glace Bay, NS which will also support our facility in Arichat, NS.

Purpose of Position

To provide HR support in the areas of recruitment, retention, attendance management, employee onboarding, meeting the terms of Collective & individual Employment Agreements, coaching on the administration of company policy and procedures, supporting and leading Indigenous Employment and Programs within Cape Breton Facilities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Recruitment Process; circulate ads, review applications, and arrange interviews. maintain resume database to ensure pool of candidates available as production requires for both Clam and Crab Operations in Highland as well as the Lobster Operation in Arichat.
  • Lead employee engagement and retention programs.
  • Complete new hire paperwork and ensure personnel files are up to date and scanned to payroll.
  • Provide day to day HR support for management team at Highland and Arichat.
  • Coordinate with HR Director on Employee Issues; lead the investigation process as per established company policies and procedures.
  • Lead the Orientation program and onboarding process for new hires as well as the annual orientation for all employees; update the program as required.
  • Lead the coordination and delivery of site required training on policy and procedures, including Harassment, Drug and Alcohol as well as Cultural training and any other required training.
  • Lead the Careers Set Sail program at both Highland and Arichat, including assisting in the recruitment and screening process, onboarding process, working closely with the Program Manager to ensure success of the program at both Highland and Arichat.
  • Develop accurate reporting and employee data in the areas of attendance, new hires, terminations, turnover etc. for management as required.
  • Provide organizational chart updates as required to the HR Coordinator in Bedford, NS.
  • Ensure Corporate Policies and Procedures are clearly posted in common areas of the Plant and Office area.
  • Coordinate Long Service Awards with Corporate Office.
  • Support the Health and Safety Officer in the Disability Management and Return to Work programs.
  • Provide support to the Health and Safety Officer for completion and submission of WCB paperwork.
  • Update the seniority list and send to the Union as required.
  • Support the management team in addressing grievances as per the CBA.
  • Participate in Labour Management Meetings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' progressive HR experience.
  • A post-secondary degree and diploma in Human Resources Management is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and employees would be an asset.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, prioritization and time-management skills.
  • Knowledge of the Fisheries would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Strong mediation / negotiation skills.
