PLATO has offices on or near Indigenous communities across Canada, in Fredericton, Miramichi, Sault Ste Marie, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Victoria.

We are growing rapidly across Canada and are seeking a Human Resources Business Partner to build and maintain a healthy and inclusive culture that aligns with PLATO's values. They are accountable for the provision of high-quality, effective, and consistent HR consultation and support aligned with business objectives and company strategies. This will be a fully on-site role based at our offices in either Calgary, AB or Winnipeg, MB.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Advise leadership on the administration and appropriate application of HR policies, procedures, and standards as well as applicable legislation/regulations
  • Act as an internal consultant by analyzing and recommending solutions to a variety of human resources and employee relations issues
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers/supervisors in resolving people issues and people management practices
  • Act as an agent of change, enabling talent building, organizational effectiveness, ongoing development, and cultural transformation

Employee Relations

  • Handles workplace accommodation matters and return to work programs
  • Provide counseling to employees regarding employment and benefits issues
  • Provide coaching to employees
  • Provide proactive support and guidance regarding corporate learning and development

Business Support

  • Work closely with the Chief People Officer to implement the HR Strategy and in close cooperation with leadership
  • Develop business cases that include strong quantitative and qualitative analyses to support recommended initiatives or programs
  • Liaise with stakeholder groups and provide value-added expertise to support corporate priorities
  • Provide information and advice on promotions, transfers, employee career advancement or enrichment, etc.

Human Resources Administration

  • Track benefits, probationary periods, doctor's notes, work restrictions, sick time and make necessary changes/amendments when required
  • Provide managers/supervisors with staff probationary dates, anniversary dates and any salary increase information
  • Maintain and update manual and computerized filing and registration systems, Human Resource Information System (HRIS), and compile and prepare reports and documents relating to human resources activities
  • Participate in the planning, development and delivery of onboarding, training, and information sessions
  • Conduct exit interviews
  • Develop, administer, implement, and coordinate the requirements of the Workplace Health & Safety Program, including Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Procedures
  • Adhere to all safety and health regulations and safe work practices
  • Participate in regular supervision with Supervisor, including an annual performance review
  • Participate in appropriate staff development opportunities and engage in professional development activities that relate directly to job performance
  • Demonstrate the value of teamwork through active engagement and participation in corporate events, workshops, and special functions
  • Represent the organization both formally and informally in a professional manner and adhere to standards of professional conduct consistent with mission of PLATO
  • Provide back-up support to the HR Team

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Commerce or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years' experience performing a broad range of Human Resource functions including, employee relations, labor relations, and staffing
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation will be considered an asset
  • Current knowledge of standards and legislation as they relate to human resource management
  • Experience resolving complex employee relations issues, working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management
  • Fluency in payroll and benefits plans and administration
  • Experience in the administration of workplace safety and health programs and compliance
  • Strong understanding of HRMS, an ability to run reports and navigate systems
  • An ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to proactively organize and manage a high volume of time sensitive tasks and work
  • Exemplary interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
  • Excellent mentoring and relationship building skills
  • Functions effectively as a team member, demonstrating emotional stability and objectivity when dealing with challenging/changing work environments
