Responsibilities

Acadia University is seeking HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys a variety of responsibilities, enjoys working with people and processes, has strong attention to detail, and takes pride in providing excellent customer service.

In this role, you will play an important part in supporting employees throughout their employment journey by assisting in the administration of employee benefits and pension programs, payroll and onboarding activities, and providing day-to-day operational support to the Human Resources department.

As a key member of the HR team, you will work with employees, retirees, managers, internal departments, and external service providers to ensure our programs are administered accurately and in compliance with legislative and policy requirements. Key responsibilities will include:

Pension and Benefits Reconciliation and Administration:

  • Administer employee pension and benefit programs, including enrollments in our HRIS system, updating changes, leaves, retirements, and end of employment.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers and pension providers to ensure accurate records and reporting.
  • Reconcile benefit and pension accounts and process monthly remittances.
  • Respond to employee and retiree inquiries regarding benefits and pension plans.
  • Support annual reporting and compliance requirements.

Payroll and Employee Onboarding:

  • Assist with payroll-related data entry and processing for casual employees.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities for our casual employees, including employment documentation, system setup, and employee communications.
  • Work with hiring managers and new employees to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.

Human Resources Operations:

  • Provide front-line support for HR inquiries and direct employees to appropriate resources.
  • Maintain employee records and filing systems while ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
  • Manage the HR departmental inbox and assist with general correspondence and reporting.
  • Update and maintain HR website content and resources.
  • Support budget tracking, invoice processing, and account reconciliations.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • We are seeking someone with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with payroll, benefits, pensions, HR systems, or financial reconciliations would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in data analysis, interpretation, and the preparation of accurate reports.
  • CPHR (Chartered Professionals in Human Resources) Designation is considered an asset.
  • Must be highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and comfortable working with confidential information.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work to a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
  • Applicants must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications with high proficiency in using Excel.
  • Experience working with Dayforce (HRIS system) an asset.
