NBCC is currently seeking a dynamic and competent Individual for the position of Head of Applied Research and Innovation. This is a Term position starting November 2020 until June 30th, 2023. This position can reside at any campus location, or Fredericton Head Office.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Research, Innovation & Experiential Education, the Head of Applied Research and Innovation (ARI) provides direct supervision to the Applied Research and Innovation team, and project management to NBCC's diverse applied research portfolios. The role helps to ensure the growth and sustainability of applied research as a way to support economic development and enrich the learning experience for NBCC students. Working with College Deans, Chairs and Faculty, the ARI head will foster an innovative applied research culture and environment focused on meeting the needs of students, staff, industry and community.

The Head of Applied Research and Innovation establishes and maintains strong industry and community partnerships in the College's key strategic areas: healthcare, social innovation, mobile and ubiquitous computing, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, value added food, and energy efficiency. The position oversees applied research project implementation and management, including project planning, budgeting, hiring, procurement of services and equipment, coordinating with stakeholders, supporting project researchers, tracking progress and milestones, and reporting.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for this opportunity include a Diploma/Degree with relevant experience in an applied area of research. Preference may be given to candidates with a researched based Master's or Doctorate Degree. Research administration and project management experience in research initiatives involving academic, industry and/or community partners (preferably within a post-secondary environment) is required. Experience with new knowledge or product development, dissemination or commercialization of research outputs, and a strong business acumen is also required. A proven record of successful industry collaborations and partnerships and demonstrated ability to successfully attract, access and manage grant funds are critical. Other requirements include: demonstrated expertise in assessing the needs of potential partners and the capabilities of internal resources to execute projects; demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently; and demonstrated success securing funding, conducting research and reporting results. Experience supervising, leading individuals and teams would be considered as an asset.

A valid driver's license and ability to travel is required as this position involves travel within the province.

Written and spoken competence in English is required.

Preference may be given to candidates who have experience working in a post-secondary environment.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.

NBCC offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, that includes a competitive salary for this position ranging $65,650.00 to $87,360.00 annually.
