McInnes Cooper is seeking a Team Lead for our Real Property team in our Halifax office for a full-time permanent position. In addition to the responsibilities of a Paralegal, the Team Lead will be responsible for ensuring support for an engaged Real Property team whilst overseeing the day-to-day general operations of the property legal assistants and paralegals under the leadership of the Manager.

Responsibilities

As a Team Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Working in a team environment assisting in the daily functions of a Real Property practice group ensuring effective daily organization and administration management;
  • Lead, coach and mentor all team members;
  • Lead the Annual Development process; supporting the development of individual and team OKRs with a continuous improving mind-set;
  • Support effective on-boarding and training of new team members ensuring their integration with MC supports their long term success;
  • Resolve and troubleshoot issues;
  • Utilize all internal systems effectively, following procedures and identifying methods of improving workflow;
  • Communicate new technologies and best practices, demonstrate new features, and identify training needs whilst providing necessary resources; and
  • Challenging yourself and your team every day; and having fun while doing so!

As a Property Paralegal, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Assisting in all aspects of real estate transactions including residential, commercial, condominium, new construction and subdivision property files;
  • Assisting with share and purchase transactions, commercial financings, developer and condominium sales by reviewing and drafting closing documents, including resolutions, officers' certificates, and security documents for financings;
  • Preparing closing books and drafting reporting letters and opinions; and,
  • Conducting all accounting related processes for all property transactions, including liaising with financial institutions to obtain mortgage releases and to deposit closing funds.

What you'll need

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following skill set:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Paralegal or Legal Administration diploma or other related education, with experience in a legal support role;
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal with commercial property and/or residential property matters
  • Previous experience leading a team;
  • Exceptional technology skills, with proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office and a genuine interest in keeping up to date with the newest technology;
  • Natural relationship builder with exceptional communication skills; and
  • Ability to utilize effective influencing strategies to build respect and trust with leaders and staff.
