Position: Graduate Services Career & Employment Coach (Maternity Leave Replacement) (APC)

Department: Sobey School of Business

Annual Salary: $47,807 - $61,609 (Group 4)

Under the direction of the Manager, Career Services, Graduate Programs, the Graduate Services Career & Employment Coach is responsible for advising and coaching graduate business students on developing their resumes and job search activities, as well as, providing career development and employability readiness guidance through one-on-one coaching sessions. This position will serve as both a resource and liaison to employers, students and faculty. The Graduate Services Career & Employment Coach will develop, coordinate and implement various on-campus recruitment activities and conduct annual graduate outcome surveys to assess success of Sobey School of Business (SSB) Master's program graduates. This position also assists with overall planning and execution of the Graduate Career Services program including planning of employer information sessions, the finance and accounting career fairs, and networking events, in addition to collecting data, writing, designing and issuing bi-weekly Career Services e-newsletter.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Duties as the Graduate Services Career & Employment Coach include, but are not limited to:

  • Holding daily office hours to guide students with career aspirations, labour market readiness, job search strategies, and individual career concerns.
  • Conducting one-on-one sessions with students to review, edit and finalize resumes, and LinkedIn profiles.
  • Conducting assessments to help students determine strengths/areas for improvement.
  • Delivering, communicating and promoting programming to students.
  • Working with faculty/program managers to determine times to schedule career workshops for Graduate students.
  • Developing employer information packages to promote graduates of the Masters programs as potential employees.
  • Providing recommendations for external marketing/promotion of SSB employer recruitment services for graduate and intern career opportunities in collaboration with the Communications Officer.
  • Providing and implementing recommendations for Social Media marketing in order to promote Sobey School of Business career and recruitment activities in collaboration with the Communications Office.
  • When appropriate, provide content for bi-weekly e-newsletter.
  • Look for ways to optimize and strengthen the Graduate Career Services brand.
  • Communicating/promoting corporate info sessions to graduate students and faculty members for attendance.
  • Acting as lead coordinator for recruitment events such as corporate tours and career fairs, which may involve logistical and budget management, the promotion of sessions to key stakeholders, sponsorship, and providing recommendations to the committee based on analysis of student and employer evaluations.
  • Coordinating and promoting special events, speaker series, and industry panels.
  • Maintaining and updating website and HireSMU events regarding relevant campus recruitment programming.
  • Posting incoming career opportunities on HireSMU and through bi-weekly newsletters and preparing weekly report on job postings for review by the Manager, Career Services, Graduate Programs.
  • Identifying and promoting external industry events where SSB should have a presence to relevant student disciplines. Updating weekly report on events for the Manager, Career Service, Graduate Programs.
  • Managing annual Graduate survey for review by the Graduate Committee.
  • Building, communicating and promoting surveys to new graduates and relevant alumni.
  • Compiling survey results and reports for the Manager, Career Services, Graduate Programs and Committee.
  • Maintaining appropriate documentation and record keeping of both student and employer activities.
  • Recording student attendance at all on-campus recruitment activities and events.
  • Tracking, recording and analyzing statistics related to employer information sessions and job posting.
  • Collecting and compiling student feedback and reports for the Manager, Career Services, Graduate Programs.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Graduate Services Career & Employment Coach you will possess an undergraduate degree in Human Resources or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience. You have the proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to participate in consultative decision making along with strong oral, written, presentation and facilitation skills. Knowledge of employment principles such as labour market information, resume format trends, LinkedIn job search software; computer competency in Microsoft Office Suite, internet, e-mail, Mail Chimp or other e-newsletter software; and the ability to work some evening and weekends, as well as, occasional travel within Nova Scotia will round out your qualifications. A background in cross-cultural communications will be considered an asset.
