Position:  Functional Analyst (NSGEU Local 79) (9-month Contract)

Department: Enrolment Services, Student Systems

Annual Salary: $50,572- $61,814 + 4% in lieu of vacation

Under the direction of the Director of Student Systems & Strategic Plans, the Functional Analyst - Student Systems is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Banner student processes. The Functional Analyst - Student Systems for reviews, redesigns, tests and documents processes to enhance functionality. This position supports reporting and training needs of various offices and creates and maintains documentation for Banner student systems. The position provides daily support to the Student Systems unit as well as to the Service Centre, Recruitment, Admissions and the Records group. The position also provides ongoing systems support to the Vice-President Academic and Research, Deans, The Language Centre, Residences, Student Services and Academic Advisors.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Functional Analyst - Student Systems include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing and understanding user documentation or/and release notes to analyze impact of new functionality or enhancements in the university integrated student information system.
  • Managing software/projects- documentation, planning and process re-engineering.
  • Developing, executing and documenting testing plans and procedures to accommodate the new functionality or enhancements; authorizes the promotion of new functionality to the production environment.
  • Developing new processes in conjunction with end users. Identifying needs and designing processes within integrated student information systems to improve efficiency.
  • Recommending changes in policies and procedures to accommodate new functionality.
  • Developing and maintaining training materials such as Power Point presentations, end user documentation and quick reference guides.
  • Delivering training and follow up sessions to the end users in groups or individually.
  • Maintaining procedures manuals and checklists specific to Saint Mary's University.
  • Communicating and training end users regarding new functionality and features.
  • Responding to queries from end users on a daily basis regarding the operation and use of Banner and other integrated student information systems.
  • New user training; assisting new users to become more proficient in exploring functionality of Banner and other integrated student information systems.
  • Developing solutions to both ad hoc and re-occurring reporting requirements.
  • Analyzing complex requests for ad hoc requests and determining the best approach for providing the data/reports.
  • Understanding data structure of Banner in order to develop and maintain knowledge on various report extraction techniques.
  • Executing large processing jobs for accuracy and completeness such as Academic standing assessment, graduation statistics, Academic timetables, batch jobs on student enrolment.
  • Determining security profiles of Banner Student systems in order to provide necessary level of access while ensuring appropriate confidentiality.
  • Acting as designate, authorizes the granting of access to create the security profiles.
  • Educating new users on confidentiality as it relates to student information.
  • Ensuring data standards are widely known and used by all users of the Banner student systems.
  • Tracking staff changes within the Student Information systems, to ensure access is granted or removed where appropriate and reviews BOE Audit Security reports and notifies Security Specialist, ITSS.
  • Analyzing business processes used in enrollment and recommending changes to existing procedures and policies using the Business Process Analysis (BPA) framework.
  • Running the BPA sessions, documenting the workflow and determining/recommending solutions using Banner INB, Banner Self Service, Crystal Reports and Business Objects Enterprise.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Functional Analyst - Student Systems, you will possess an Undergraduate Degree in Commerce or related field with a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience. You demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting. Banner system experience an asset.
