Job Information and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), the Financial Analyst will:
- Be responsible for reviewing and/or populating the annual budget templates for Saint Mary's University and its departments for the following funds: operating and internally restricted reserves, capital and special projects.
- Be responsible for working with Budget Owners assigned to draft, version multiple revisions of the budgets and load budgets into Vena.
- Be responsible for reviewing and/or populating the quarterly/monthly forecast templates for Saint Mary's University and its departments for the following funds: operating and internally restricted, capital and special projects.
- Be responsible for working with budget owners assigned to draft, version and lead forecast into Vena.
- Be responsible for providing monthly/quarterly and annual budget and cost variance analyses for designate Org's to senior finance management and academic budget owners and Department Chairs
- Act as a continuous improvement champion for the department and the University as support to the Manager, FP&A and individually.
- In the event that staff are working remotely, or asked to work remotely, during an event that does not allow staff to be on campus physically, job duties must be maintained or adjusted where possible to accommodate working in a virtual environment and maintaining support
Experience and Education Requirements
To be the successful Financial Analyst you will have:
- Undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration, enrolled in the CPA Program and one (1) to (3) years general accounting experience.
OR - Undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration and two (2) to three (3) years directly related experience.
- Understanding of current accounting policies and practices, including accounting for not-for-profit organizations.
- Thorough knowledge of financial, fund and managerial accounting, financial systems, internal controls, financial analysis, and reporting is required.
- Above average interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and advanced skills in Excel.
