Role Overview
The Facilities Manager leads and manages the operation and continuous improvement of Rayleigh's advanced facilities to meet evolving research and production needs. This role requires deep mechanical and electrical systems expertise, cleanroom experience, and proven leadership. With 10+ years of facility engineering and cleanroom construction/maintenance, this individual ensures Rayleigh's built environment delivers optimal operational performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with Canadian regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Facility Development & Maintenance:
- Oversee the planning, design, and execution of facility improvements to meet the evolving needs of the research and development teams.
- Maintain specific temperature, humidity, and cleanliness conditions in laboratory and manufacturing spaces as defined by the research teams.
Regulatory Adherence:
- Ensure compliance with building and fire code regulations, particularly regarding the use of solvents that may pose explosion and fire hazards.
- Coordinate necessary audits and inspections.
Infrastructure Optimization & Collaboration with Research Teams:
- Work closely with internal teams to design and implement facility layouts and utilities that maximize efficiency and research productivity while ensuring alignment with project timelines and requirements.
- Lead planning, design, and execution of facility enhancements to support R&D and production including cleanroom construction/upgrades with tight control of temperature, humidity, and cleanliness.
Vendor, Contractor & Project Management:
- Manage external service providers and contractors-supervising maintenance, repairs, and capital projects to ensure timely, cost-effective execution.
- Prepare and manage budgets, negotiate vendor contracts, and monitor project delivery.
Risk Management & Safety:
- Proactively identify facility-related risks and implement controls; champion workplace safety and emergency response protocols (e.g. LOTO, PPE, gas/solvent safety).
Process Equipment Support:
- Work with teams to ensure process equipment is installed properly with all exhaust, safety, and utility requirements.
- Ensure installations comply with Canadian electrical and mechanical standards, including certification and testing protocols.
What you'll need
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
- 6+ years of experience in facility management, infrastructure development, or a related field, preferably within the technology or manufacturing sectors.
- Experience in contractor management, budgeting, and project coordination.
- Expertise in working with cross-functional teams to develop and implement infrastructure solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate operational needs.
- Familiarity with relevant engineering software and project management tools.
- Bachelor's degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
Bonus points
- Strong knowledge of cleanroom construction and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of building and fire code compliance, particularly related to hazardous materials.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale facility projects from concept to completion within strict timelines.
