Living SJ is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization in pursuit of its goal to end generational poverty within the City of Saint John, NB. Led by a Leadership Team of influencers, Living SJ is a diverse network of partners representing business, government and educational institutions; philanthropic, non-profit and community organizations; and people with lived experience; who have agreed to be change leaders and work together to strengthen our community and end generational poverty. Our focus is on five neighbourhoods that have high concentrations of generational poverty, and on the effective mechanisms that will reduce poverty in New Brunswick.

The Executive Director is the staff lead, responsible for the overall coordination and management of the partnerships and the implementation strategies that will achieve the intended results of the Living SJ plan. This position reports to the Co-Chairs of the Living SJ Leadership Team, works closely with the Executive Team, the chairpersons and backbone supports for each priority area (education, employment, health, neighbourhoods), and leads a small staff team.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Advance and operationalize the vision and strategic direction to guide the organization's operational goals, objectives and philosophy.
  • Communicate the vision of Living SJ to all stakeholders including the community and constantly reinforce that vision through ongoing communication.
  • Take a strategic, proactive and systemic approach to external stakeholder management to maintain and enhance our multi-faceted revenue streams and to expand our network.
  • Build, strengthen and maintain relationships and partnerships with key funders, agencies, and strategic stakeholders to achieve Living SJ priorities and objectives.
  • Foster effective teamwork between and within Collective Impact teams.
  • Manage the evaluation processes and reporting for Living SJ.
  • Plan and manage internal and external communications including acting as a key spokesperson for the organization.
  • Manage accountability, reporting and performance of the Living SJ Social Innovation Fund with community partners and the funding partners.
  • Oversee the management of financial resources of the organization and securing funding.
  • Manage staff and consultant contracts for Living SJ.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • University Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline, or the equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 5 years of senior management professional experience, or relevant management experience including, development and management of the organization's budget.
  • Personal commitment to, and belief in, the purpose of Living SJ, including its mission, vision and core values.
  • Ability to lead a large community strategy and volunteer network.
  • Ability to inspire diverse stakeholders to contribute and participate in 'collective impact' approaches that achieve social change.
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.
  • Flexibility and Innovation - has demonstrated ability to adapt to new conditions and to develop new solutions.
  • Energetic and critical thinker; innovative and pragmatic problem-solver.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Has good financial acumen, and ability to manage budgets
  • Excellent knowledge of poverty and social policy; government, business and community practices; and the mechanics of research, project planning and evaluation.
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal including strong presentation skills.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, non-profit environment that values results, learning and change.
  • Competency with appropriate computer-based applications.
  • Able to work flexible and non-traditional hours.
  • Competence in both official languages is considered an asset.
