The Scotiabank Centre, managed by Events East Group, is the largest multipurpose facility in Atlantic Canada, serving as the region's premier venue for major entertainment and sporting events and the nucleus of major event activity in Nova Scotia. Having hosted the world's top performers, homegrown talent, best in class athletes and many performers in between, Scotiabank Centre has been a source for community vibrancy and pride for over 35 years.

Designed to meet the needs of multiple events, Nova Scotia's Halifax Convention Centre offers over 120,000 square feet of flexible event space in the heart of downtown. The Halifax Convention Centre is part of the Nova Centre, a million-square-foot, mixed-use development that includes a hotel, office towers, and retail space. It is the largest integrated development project in the province's history.


THE POSITION:

Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Event Setup Technician, core with our Event Setup team.

The Event Technician is responsible for performing assigned tasks related to the overall setup and teardown for Events East Group events at the Scotiabank Centre and The Halifax Convention Center.


THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and furniture to set-up and teardown staging and room layouts for events.
  • Complete duties associated with set-up and teardowns safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform general repair and maintenance of Events East equipment.
  • Follow departmental standards, job procedures, and equipment operation protocols to ensure the safety of oneself, team members, and clients.
  • Respond quickly and positively to event changes communicated through clients and leaders.
  • Wear and use appropriate PPE as required; report any issues or violations.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends with shifts lasting up to 10-12 hours when needed.
  • Basic math skills required; computer skills preferred.
  • Experience in a similar (laborious) role preferred.


THE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Reaching, bending, kneeling and twisting on a regular basis while performing various tasks.
  • Stacking and unstacking chairs, tables, staging, and other equipment.
  • Pushing and pulling carts with chairs, tables, staging, and equipment weighing over 85lbs.
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 50lbs.


This is a bargaining unit position represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU, Local 2). This position is classified as an ET (Hourly) position. As this is a bargaining unit position, it is initially restricted to current employees represented by SEIU Local 2 Union. Events East

We manage and operate the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic. Created as part of a government partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality, we work in collaboration with them to manage our business in a responsible and transparent manner.

We were established in 2014 through legislation to operate, maintain and manage the activities of the Halifax Convention Centre in a manner that will promote and develop economic development, tourism and industry in the Province generally, and the Municipality.

Effective April 1, 2017, our mandate expanded to include the continued management and operations of Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic, formerly under Trade Centre Limited (TCL).
