Designed to meet the needs of multiple events, Nova Scotia's Halifax Convention Centre offers over 120,000 square feet of flexible event space in the heart of downtown. The Halifax Convention Centre is part of the Nova Centre, a million-square-foot, mixed-use development that includes a hotel, office towers, and retail space. It is the largest integrated development project in the province's history.
The Scotiabank Centre, managed by Events East Group, is the largest multipurpose facility in Atlantic Canada, serving as the region's premier venue for major entertainment and sporting events and the nucleus of major event activity in Nova Scotia. Having hosted the world's top performers, homegrown talent, best in class athletes and many performers in between, Scotiabank Centre has been a source for community vibrancy and pride for over 35 years. With a seating capacity of more than 10,000 and the versatility to accommodate a range of events, Scotiabank Centre hosts close to 500,000 attendees each year and is home to the Halifax Mooseheads, Halifax Thunderbirds Lacrosse and the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
THE POSITION:
The Halifax Convention Centre and Scotiabank Centre managed by Events East Group is now inviting applications for the position of Event Services Technician (core) with our Event Services team.
The Event Services Technician (ET) is responsible for performing assigned tasks related to the overall physical setup and teardown for the Halifax Convention Centre (HCC), Scotiabank Centre (SBC), and Events East Group events. Reporting to the Event Services Department Managers, Event Services Technicians work closely to ensure the event spaces are set up correctly and safely according to the event orders.
Event Technicians are expected to handle all guest interactions in a friendly and courteous manner with the highest level of hospitality and professionalism, striving to consistently exceed our customers' expectations and contribute to a positive, safe, and inclusive team environment.
THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Excellence:
- Work with all colleagues in a respectful, professional manner to fully meet event setup and teardown deadlines.
- Respond to all client needs with a pleasant demeanor and communicate any client needs or changes to the direct supervisor promptly.
Operations:
- Set-up, install, reconfigure, relocate and dismantle temporary partitions and furnishings of rooms according to client needs.
- Assemble, rotate and disassemble displays, showcases and signage according to floor plans and client needs.
- Perform assigned tasks as directed, working toward overall execution of events on and off Events East Group property.
- Transport client and supplier goods from the loading dock to any location within the facility per Drayage resources, or other needs as required.
- Arrive at work on time and remain at work for the duration of the shift.
- Other duties as required.
Physical Resource Management:
- As directed, perform daily rounds in all work facilities for all event and storage rooms to ensure general maintenance and cleaning is done per Events East standards.
- Treat event setup equipment respectfully, according to job procedures and operational standards, with a duty to report those who are in violation to the ET Shift Supervisor.
- Perform general repair and maintenance of SBC, HCC, and Events East equipment, as directed; report any other required repairs to direct Supervisor for follow-up.
Health & Safety:
- Report all safety hazards to the direct supervisor as soon as is reasonably possible. Take action to correct the safety hazard if possible and reasonable.
- Follow all departmental standards and guidelines, job procedures, and equipment operation protocols to continuously ensure the safety of oneself, team members, and clients.
- Wear and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required; report any issues or violations within the team or onsite to the direct supervisor.
- Report any damaged PPE to the direct supervisor, promptly.

THE PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
- Basic math skills required.
- Grade 12 or equivalent preferred.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Basic reading skills (read event documents and visual floor plans)
- Experience in a similar physical labour role preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Shifts can be up to 12 hours in length and include early mornings, days, evenings past midnight, weekends, holidays, and overnight backshifts.
- Throughout the shift, the ability to meet the following physical demands is required:
- Stand, walk, and climb occasionally to continually on various flooring and step types.
- Bend, squat, crouch, and twist minimally to frequently.
- Reach overhead, forward, and to the side occasionally to frequently.
- Lift above the shoulder, to the shoulder, and to the waist 5-45lbs minimally to continually.
- Carry 15-45lbs minimally to frequently.
- Push and pull 20-60lbs minimally to frequently.
- Other physical demands as required.

Events East
We manage and operate the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic. Created as part of a government partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality, we work in collaboration with them to manage our business in a responsible and transparent manner.
We were established in 2014 through legislation to operate, maintain and manage the activities of the Halifax Convention Centre in a manner that will promote and develop economic development, tourism and industry in the Province generally, and the Municipality.
Effective April 1, 2017, our mandate expanded to include the continued management and operations of Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic, formerly under Trade Centre Limited (TCL).
