Events East Group is now inviting applications for a talented and results driven Event Services Shift Supervisor with our Event Operations team in support of the Scotiabank Centre and Halifax Convention Centre. 

The Event Services Team is responsible for the overall setup and teardown for events at the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Events East functions. 

As our ideal candidate, you'll have experience in any kind of events and/or banquet and conference set up and tear down work. Also organizing work groups, coaching, motivating, managing performance and ensuring high quality and efficient workflow. You'll be a strong communicator and a natural leader with proven ability to resolve workplace issues effectively. You'll be genuinely excited about guiding, training and supporting your team and motivated to help Events East achieve our goal to connect the world to Nova Scotia by creating memorable event experiences. 

We require a hands-on leader, able to perform all physical aspects of the set up and tear down of events with a strong focus on workplace safety. The ability to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends and holidays is a must.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Overall supervision and delegation of tasks, working alongside the team when required
  • Handle client and team interaction in a friendly, courteous manner with the highest level of hospitality and professionalism
  • Actively address any problems with performance, quality and safety issues
  • Ensure employees are adhering to safe work practices and company procedures
  • Conduct performance reviews, motivate team and assist in planning and scheduling activities

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Experience in a hands-on supervisory role in a similar work environment
  • Experienced or at least familiar with Aerial Platform, Forklift, Pallet Jack, Scissor Lift Operation
  • High school education or equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of safe lifting practices and heavy lifting
  • Proficiency with computer software (Word, Excel).
  • Basic Math skills
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written, telephone), read and write in English fluently and in a professional manner
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently and effectively under pressure
  • Clean safety record

Events East

We manage and operate the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic. Created as part of a government partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality, we work in collaboration with them to manage our business in a responsible and transparent manner.

We were established in 2014 through legislation to operate, maintain and manage the activities of the Halifax Convention Centre in a manner that will promote and develop economic development, tourism and industry in the Province generally, and the Municipality.

Effective April 1, 2017, our mandate expanded to include the continued management and operations of Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic, formerly under Trade Centre Limited (TCL).

Our facilities and the events we attract are platforms for prosperity. Whether we’re attracting large delegations or hosting an elite group of athletes for an international competition, we are a catalyst for new opportunities and connections between Nova Scotia and the world.
