Marid Industries seeking an Estimator to join our Sales & Estimating team! In this role, you'll use your construction knowledge to collaborate with project managers, production, purchasing, and finance teams to drive sales success and deliver exceptional client service. You'll have the chance to work alongside experienced estimators, learning from their expertise while gaining hands-on experience in analyzing costs, reviewing project details, and crafting competitive bids in a fast-paced work environment.

This is a full-time position based out of our head office in Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and interprets drawings of commercial, industrial, and institutional structures.
  • Checks documents and determines if all materials, information, and specifications are present.
  • Prepares specification analysis and addendum review.
  • Uses Technical writing in the preparation of proposals, bid forms, and quotation letters.
  • Applies knowledge of construction materials, methods, and processes to develop accurate and reliable estimates.
  • Builds strong client, subcontractor, and supplier relationships through consistent communication and collaboration.
  • Prepares estimates for designs, material takeoffs, and pricing for structural steel and miscellaneous metals.
  • Determines scope of work and ensures document control.
  • Solicits supplier/subcontractor pricing and distributes tender prices.
  • Assesses job sites, document details (e.g., access, hazards, crane setup), and prepares for delivery deadlines.
  • Attends meetings, delivers tenders in person if needed, and manages project handovers.
  • Organizes project handover meeting with the project management team for successful bids.
  • Visits shop, and site locations to observe work processes to enhance knowledge base.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field, from a recognized educational institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience. P
  • Preferred Certificate in Construction Administration Technology; additional certifications in estimating, project management, or steel fabrication are considered an asset.

Experience & Skills

  • 2-5 years of experience in cost estimation including calculating material, labor, and overhead costs, or related experience.
  • Experience working in the construction industry.
  • Experience working in the steel industry would be considered a strong asset.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business correspondence and technical documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and other employees.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and industry development.
  • Flexibility to visit sites and locations as needed.
