As an Engineer on our Drafting and Engineering team you will play a key role in designing structural steel projects and collaborating with our site and fabrication teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on diverse projects, broaden your skill set, and make a tangible impact in the construction and steel industry

We specialize in a variety of projects, including structural steel buildings, miscellaneous steel (e.g., stairs and railings), bridges, and renovations. What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Preliminary and detailed design of structural steel buildings and miscellaneous metals.
  • Provide design solutions for a wide range of projects including temporary works related to infrastructure projects.
  • Work closely with site and fabrication teams to address challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Apply construction experience, and Marid's preferred fabrication and erection techniques, to solve complex problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure that Marid's erection and shop drawings meet client requirements, conform to contract documents as well as industry standards in the most economical way.
  • Preparation of sketches and drawings for fabrication and erection.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Clients, Consultants, Detailers, and Construction Managers to meet project goals.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and success of our projects and team.
  • Participate in Marid's safety and quality assurance programs.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Engineering in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized educational institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years experience working in steel fabrication or construction industry.
  • Experience in steel design.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems efficiently, using industry knowledge and innovative ideas.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of engineering mathematical concepts in practical situations.
  • Familiarization with industry standards (CISC and AISC).
  • Knowledge of the National and Provincial Building Codes is a strong asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Skills in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Experience in Tekla, RAM, Safi and/or structural analysis software is considered an asset.
  • Registration as or ability to obtain a P.Eng. in Nova Scotia.
