Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health. 

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians each and every day. We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers and support staff.

The Employee Health and Wellness Consultant will provide administration, support and advisory services to employees and management specific to areas of employee health and wellness. This position will contribute to the accomplishments of employee health and wellness services and objectives, and provide a service-oriented, high performance culture. This position, while working collaboratively with internal partners will provide support in disability management processes, absenteeism management, immunization administration, psychological health services and will promote overall employee wellness within EMC where applicable.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of psychological and physical health programs including the design, development, implementation and evaluation of related direct services and monitoring of services provided by community partners
  • Support psychological health and wellness framework by co-chairing or being an active participant in various groups and project committees
  • Support the development, maintenance and execution of related employee wellness and health related policies
  • Assist with data analysis and reporting by gathering data from various internal and external sources
  • Conduct assessments on employees and provide immunological services as required
  • Support disability management processes including application for benefits, assisting with management of short- and long-term disability leaves
  • Administration and management of WCB claims application and liaising with external partners
  • Provide on-going assistance to employees and management concerning procedures and status relating to short- and long-term disability leaves, WCB, wellness initiatives and related department policies
  • Design and/or coordinate gradual return to work programs and modified work programs

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse-Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, diploma in nursing acceptable
  • Current registration and in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses
  • Minimum of five (5) years' recent experience in occupational health nursing field, preferably in the health care sector
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse designation required. Diploma in Occupational Health and related experience will be considered.

  • Experience working with partners in the areas of occupational health, disability management and employee wellness preferably in a unionized environment
  • Completion of a disability management certification, i.e. CDMP or willingness to achieve the designation
  • Minimum of two years working knowledge and experience in WCB claims management, STD, LTD and disability management
  • Demonstrated health assessment skills and relevant knowledge including communicable disease surveillance protocols
  • Knowledge of relevant and current legislation
  • Proven written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites of Products
  • Some travel may be required
