Position: Educational Developer (1 Year Contract)

Department: Studio for Teaching & Learning

Annual Salary: $61,000 - $75,000 + 4% in lieu of vacation

Under the supervision of the Director, Educational Development and Technology, the Educational Developer is responsible for project management and oversight in the development of online courses and programs. The Educational Developer works closely with faculty members and staff in the production of online courses and actively guides, contributes to, and participates in the design of effective electronic instructional materials that are informative, accurate, and consistent with sound instructional design and e-learning principles.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Educational Developer include, but are not limited to:

  • Consulting with faculty; administering needs assessments; designing curriculum; developing and integrating learning activities; and delivering activities with educational technologies for existing blended, face-to-face, and online courses.
  • Researching and advising on effective pedagogies and creative applications of technologies to improve and achieve learning outcomes.
  • Managing, planning, and developing electronic learning content using the University asynchronous learning system, synchronous technologies, and mobile communications.
  • Training and supporting instructors and learners when blended, face-to-face and online courses are prepared between terms, being delivered, and in urgent situations where a course must be prepared and deployed quickly.
  • Proofreading online learning materials in scheduled fully online courses before the term starts.
  • Assessing and coordinating copyright licenses and approvals for existing and emerging fully online course electronic learning materials.
  • Meeting on a regular basis with each faculty member and technical e-Learning team, developing an online courses, in order to review work progress to date and provide support and resources.
  • Creating hybrid delivery models for academic programs.
  • Working with the Instructional Multimedia Analyst and faculty member to select appropriate electronic educational media as elements for course design.
  • Organizing course materials effectively to provide flow of effective use of communication, assessments, and course management tools.
  • Evaluating course materials for consistency, organization, and quality standards in format, mechanics of writing, accessibility, and copyright.
  • Communicating frequently and effectively with course project team members to ensure that goals are being met.
  • Working with the e-Learning team and others to produce and complete project deliverables, and milestones, and to ensure best practices in online education are incorporated into existing courses and programs.
  • Meeting with faculty members on a regular schedule to review work, progress to date, provide support, and resources. Referring faculty to e-Learning team members when necessary.
  • Training staff and faculty on a variety of technology platforms, supplementary programs, and a variety of course design software used to increase student engagement.
  • Conducting training on developing assessment and evaluation tools to support and measure effective teaching and student learning.
  • Providing bi-weekly reports on course development projects.
  • Providing advice to the Director, Educational Development and Technology and E-Learning team new developments and issues for development and delivery of online courses.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Educational Developer you will possess a Master's Degree in Education with Information Technology or Education Technology specialization and a minimum of two (2) years of recent and related experience. Experience and training in instructional design and project management; strong written and oral communication skills; strong customer service skills; and the ability to lead a team through a creative process will ensure you success in this position. You will also have the ability to work in fast-paced, team oriented environment and have knowledge of web design principles, learning theories and best practices. Experience with University asynchronous learning system, synchronous technologies and mobile communications will be considered assets.
