The Role:

Halifax Partnership has an opportunity to work with us as an Economist within the Economic Research team. The Economic Research team produces and maintains several online data products (Halifax Index, Halifax Economic Dashboard, and Economic Atlas). The team also responds to requests for data and analysis from internal and external clients, including significant assistance to the Partnership's Business Attraction team.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Gathering, processing, and analyzing economic data.
  • Clearly and concisely communicating economic data through prose and graphics (charts, tables, maps, etc.).
  • Contributing to the development of the Halifax Index (gathering and preparing data, building charts and tables, loading information to the web site, drafting related text, fact-checking content, etc.).
  • Assisting with regular updating of the Tableau-based Halifax Economic Dashboard.
  • Inputting data into Salesforce to monitor and track the Partnership's business attraction efforts.
  • Conducting pre-meeting research and creating targeted PowerPoint visuals to support pitch presentations for sales meetings in coordination with other business units.
  • Conducting post-meeting analysis with the Business Attraction team, gathering relevant information to be forwarded to prospective clients, including developing customized reports for companies evaluating expansion into Halifax, in coordination with the Research and Marketing teams.
  • Conducting research on Halifax Partnership's key sectors, targeted geographic locations, and events/trade shows.
  • Preparing materials for business attraction events, which may include background documents, company profiles, PowerPoint presentations, etc., and attending such events to represent Halifax Partnership.
  • Conducting research and competitive intelligence on companies and creating company profiles, both independently and with other team members and consulting organizations.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree in economics or a related field or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Academic experience conducting economic research and analysis is usefu
  • Additional professional experience is preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to locate, retrieve, process, and analyze economic data.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information using graphics (charts, tables, maps, etc.).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet organizational objectives.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work independently is a must.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (Tableau, ArcGIS) is valuable.
  • Proficiency in CRM/database tools (especially Salesforce) is valuable.
