The Director, Project Delivery is accountable for planning and delivering assigned projects to ensure policy objectives are achieved on time, within budget and with a key focus on quality. The Director, Project Delivery will lead projects to operational completion by influencing and leading key stakeholders to the desired project outcome.

This position works with our healthcare infrastructure division and will be located in Sydney, NS.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

1. Leads projects to operational completion by leading both the internal and external parties to desired outcome.

2. Develops and maintains project plans including scope, budget, and schedule to ensure project related policy objectives are realized as efficiently as possible.

3. Supervises assigned project staff pursuant to Build NS human resource practices and oversees the works of contracted external resources to ensure the cost-effective delivery of work in accordance with the scope of negotiated contracts.

4. Monitors project deliverables and provides direction to staff so that deliverables meet defined Build NS Healthcare quality standards.

5. Manages project risk by prioritizing potential risk areas and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies to program management.

6. Communicates regularly with sponsors and stakeholders to maintain positive working relationships, including participating in and leading federal/provincial/academic scientific, regulatory and technical advisory committees and community based committees and directing the development of Build NS program status reports consistent with organizational reporting processes and standards.

7. Manages procurement of project resources according to NSLI procurement policy including contract management of Build NS project suppliers.

8. Supports, or in the absence of the Senior Director acts as, spokesperson for the project with media and in public forum

9. Ensures the effective management of human and financial resources by setting and evaluating staff performance targets, promoting diversity and a healthy, respectful workplace, demonstrating the leadership competencies, respecting corporate human resources practices, promoting teamwork and individual development, maintaining internal communication, monitoring revenues and expenditures, adhering to procurement guidelines, acquiring goods and services in the most cost effective manner, and accurately forecasting budget requirements for the fiscal year. May perform other related duties as assigned.

What you'll need

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you have a post-secondary degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other relevant discipline, along with ten (10) plus years of progressive experience in a leadership role in construction operations or project management, preferably with a good understanding of healthcare or similar scale public infrastructure projects.

A results-oriented leader with a proven ability to create alignment across various business units, you can effectively manage diverse teams of project consultants, specialists and contractors and help develop high performance project teams across multiple locations. You have a proven track record in strategic planning, operations and budget management, project scheduling, as well as developing and implementing best practices in project management. You have strong knowledge of relevant legal matters, legislation, regulations, standards and codes, and are adept at managing through the evolving demands and priorities inherent within large, complex construction projects.

You are proficient in developing metrics and reporting structures to effectively measure and report on project performance, ensuring communications with a wide array of stakeholders are consistent and seamless. Exceptional at managing, prioritizing, and planning, you draw upon your natural people leadership skills to work cohesively and effectively with large and diverse teams, and you can propose innovative and industry-leading solutions and recommendations for accomplishing project objectives.

Nova Scotia Healthcare Infrastructure Division

Build Nova Scotia Healthcare Infrastructure Division is committed to delivering an extensive, multi-site, multi-year infrastructure Redevelopment Plan designed to ensure the health care needs of Nova Scotians are met for the next 50 years.

The redevelopment plan includes major expansions and additions to hospitals and health services in communities across the Province, including throughout the Halifax and Cape Breton Regional Municipalities. Successful project delivery will allow services to be moved out of the aging facilities such as the Centennial, Victoria and Dickson buildings on the Victoria General (VG) site of the QEII.

Master planning for the redevelopment program is focused on modernizing the health care system to ensure the needs of Nova Scotians remain at the heart of our delivery of best-in-class services. Together, the redevelopment projects will help support the health care of all Nova Scotians today, and for future generations.
