PQA and PLATO are Canada's software testing specialists. We believe better software can lead to a better world. Together, PQA and PLATO are on a mission to break down barriers to Indigenous participation in the technology sector by training and employing 1000 Indigenous software testers from coast to coast to coast, in partnership with Canada's leading corporations.

We are growing and are looking for a Director of People and Learning to help us do that! In this role, you will lead and execute PQA and sister company PLATO's People & Learning objectives, goals, and strategies. In collaboration with our Senior Leadership Team and with the support of our human resources team, you will support PQA and PLATO's shared vision and mission, goals, and strategies with tailored People processes, programs and policies.

You will ensure our largely distributed remote and growing team of 120+ diverse individuals are engaged, supported, and productive in our mission. You will help build and maintain a healthy and inclusive culture that aligns with our organizational values of quality, respect, courage, accountability, and impact.

With a core focus on learning and employee development, you will ensure the growth of our employees' skills, knowledge, and satisfaction, driving our business' growth.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Learning & Development

  • Evaluate individual and organizational learning development needs
  • Create and execute nimble learning strategies and programs across the organization, aligned to PQA and PLATO's growth strategy
  • Support practice leads in the structure and management of practice-specific training and knowledge sharing approaches
  • Implement various learning methods across the organization (e.g. coaching, job-shadowing, online training, peer-to-peer learning, etc)
  • Help managers develop their team members through learning plan development and career pathing
  • Assess the success of learning and development plans and help managers and employees make the most of learning opportunities
  • Update training programs and strategies to ensure they are relevant
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of learning and development programs

People

  • Lead organizational culture building strategies and uphold PQA's values
  • Manage and oversee the recruitment program, including the development of job descriptions, postings and employment branding, interview processes, liaising with hiring managers, ensuring effective assessment practices
  • Manage and oversee the onboarding program
  • Lead and oversee Compensation and Total Rewards strategy, including annual compensation reviews and benefits administration oversight
  • Manage the performance management program including recognition and review process administration
  • Lead and support People Manager engagement, training and development
  • Management of People & Learning budget
  • Develop and manage all HR policies including ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement to ensure relevance, accuracy and compliance
  • Manage People & Learning team and oversee all job duties and responsibilities

You will also be invited to provide input and advice on:

  • Organizational design
  • Corporate communications
  • external PLATO training development
  • General corporate strategy

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • You have proven work experience as an HR practitioner and leader (7+ years)
  • You are passionate about learning and development, and have played a key role in L&D programs that have had measurable impact in past organizations
  • You have knowledge and experience across all HR functions
  • You are a champion of employee engagement and building strong and healthy teams
  • You have relevant experience working with Indigenous Peoples, organizations, or programs
  • You are a strategic and systems thinker
  • You are a caring people manager and coach
  • You have excellent organizational skills and diligence, with an ability to prioritize important projects
  • You are able to use metrics and analytics to make data-driven decisions
