Our well established client, VistaCare Communications is a leading telecommunications solutions provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated candidate to join oth leadership team of Directional Drilling in the role of Director of Operations-Directional Drilling.
The Director of Operations is responsible for oversight of all day to day operations for VistaCare Underground, including projects, customers and resources. The Director ensures that customer deadlines and quality standards are being met, and ensures that all projects maintain expected gross profit margining. The Director is responsible for oversight on hiring, providing performance management coaching and feedback as needed, as well as direct oversight of all management and administrative personnel working within the department.
The Director will be engaged in ensuring that company growth targets are met or exceeded, and will be heavily involved in sourcing and vetting new potential customers or revenue streams. This role requires a seasoned planner who can develop and implement processes and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of overall operations as the division continues to grow. Building and maintaining great relationships with our employees and customers is paramount to being successful in this role.
The successful candidate with have at least five (5) years of experience in a senior management role in the telecommunications construction industry. The Director must have an engaging leadership style that promotes teamwork and collaboration in a management-by-objectives environment. The right individual for this position is highly motivated, takes pride in their work and enjoys working in a results-driven, fast-paced environment. Consistently delivering to committed customer requirements is critical to being successful in this role. Travel will be required throughout Canada and the United States on an as needed basis dependent on operations and customer requirements.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work closely with the senior leadership team to ensure that operations are operating in line with the company's targets
- Establish clear metrics and benchmarks for growth and measuring progress; implement new processes, procedures and technologies to improve project oversight and management of finances and resources
- Work with Human Resources to identify recruitment needs and fill vacancies; communicate and enforce company policies in conjunction with Human Resources
- Conduct performance management and coaching with department staff, and ensures that performance management processes are upheld; ensures that discipline issues are dealt with effectively and constructively
- Ensures that all VC International operations are compliant with OH&S requirements; upholds the highest level of safety standards and enforces policy when required
- Work with senior management team to develop strategies to expand market share and increase business opportunities for directional drilling
- Planning and implementation of efficient mobilization and demobilization strategies that are easily scalable for all projects
- Provides operational reporting on all VistaCare Underground projects to ensure that targets and deadlines are being met
- Seek continuous improvement in staff capabilities and provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities; identify and hire top talent and provide ongoing performance management
- Provides leadership for the project teams and all personnel working under VistaCare Underground; works with Human Resources to resolve personnel issues and ensure appropriate succession planning is in place to meet operational demands
- Maintain a high level of ethics, integrity and quality leadership that motivates and empowers employees
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a leadership role, preferably in a director's role or equivalent operational management
- Must have a minimum of five years of experience at the managerial level in Outside Plant Construction, with specific knowledge of fibre optics and FTTx; preference for experience at the project management level in outside plant construction
- Engaging leadership style that builds and sustains credibility with staff, colleagues, clients and other stakeholders
- Excellent track record of delivering results while effectively leading the division
- Ability to operate at both a strategic/conceptual level, as well as a detail/operational level
- Experienced in a hands-on, action-oriented approach to management that fits well within the entrepreneurial, fast-pace environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with an extraordinary ability to build and maintain business relationships
- Proven, effective decision-making and problem-solving experience

Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license and reasonable driver abstract; must meet insurance carrier requirements
- Willingness to travel as required
- The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
