We are looking for a Director of Operations to working closely with the principal of Cardwell Farms. This position will provide leadership, management and vision to ensure the company has the proper operational controls and procedures in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency. The Director of Operations will develop and implement a variety of strategies to maximize revenue while maintaining an acceptable level of quality, as well as work on improving the supply chain to positively impact variables such as cost, quality and delivery time.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Key areas of focus include, but are not limited to, the following:

Operations

  • Oversee and plan the daily operations and provide leadership for the overall operating performance of the business
  • Build and maintain a departmental structure, operating standards and practices that are responsive and adaptable to evolving business needs
  • Manage procurement processes and coordinate material and resource allocationOversee operational standards and implement quality assurance checks for all aspects of operations

Inventory and Production Management

  • Develop and implement plans to efficiently use materials, labor and equipment to meet production targets
  • Develop production schedules and maintain an inventory of raw materials and finished products
  • Plan and implement changes to farm and manufacturing plant machinery and equipment, production systems and methods of work
  • Controls inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system

Strategy / Leadership / Management

  • Create and cultivate an environment that aligns with our purpose; drawing and retaining high-performing talent that naturally live organizational values
  • Implement, manage and evaluate operation processes and procedures, in accordance with the standards and procedures set out by the organization
  • Work with principal to develop and implement new business strategies for creating or improving processes and procedures
  • Demonstrate visible leadership to employees to encourage maximum performance and dedication
  • Establish and foster an environment that stimulates good communications, teamwork and creativity in both problem-solving and identification of opportunities

Financial and Human Resource Management

  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating correction actions
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Supervise staff from different departments and provide constructive feedback
  • Analyze, evaluate and interpret monthly, quarterly and annual trend data that promotes effective management of priorities, leverages strengths and quickly identifies target areas of opportunity for improvement
  • Ensure corporate policy and regulatory initiatives are consistently applied

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field with a minimum of 5 years of senior management and / or operations experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to think strategically, plan, organize and execute effectively
  • Strong problem-solving, delegation, coaching, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead, direct and manage program and policy development and delivery
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to be proactive and demonstrate initiative
  • Familiarity with MS Office and various business software
  • Thrive in a constantly changing, fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency
  • Preference will be given to applicants with compliance and enforcement or policy analysis / development experience in an Agricultural environment
  • Hands on experience in plant biology (an understanding of the science behind compost and soils production) would be considered an asset
