As the Director of Facilities Management, you will lead the team of over 70 capable managers and staff who maintain the 17 buildings, mechanical and electrical systems and grounds where MSVU programs are delivered and resident students live. You will manage operating budgets of approximately $7.6 million with 1.8 million in ancillary revenue plus capital project work. You will be responsible for over $185 million in insured property and contents spread over the picturesque 38.5-acre campus.

Reporting to the Vice President, Administration, you will be accountable for providing strategic leadership to ensure the physical facilities of the campus are well designed, appropriately developed, properly maintained, safe and effectively operated. In addition to physical facilities, you will provide leadership for campus security, custodial services, steam plant operations, conference services, and the campus bookstore.

You will build relationships with your key stakeholders - students, faculty, senior administrators, consultants/contractors, vendors and suppliers, the Board and the local community.

What you'll need

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you are an engineering professional with strong organizational, people, and project management skills or related professional education or training and 5 years of relevant experience. You have successfully managed complex facilities in a publicly accountable organization, and you pursue opportunities to improve operational efficiency proactively. Prior experience in academic setting is an asset. You are well versed in capital projects, evidence-based decision making as well as crisis management.

As an excellent communicator and motivator, you have proven leadership and team-building skills, including the talent to build consensus. You are comfortable providing strategic direction and operational advice. Committed to customer service and quality, you find innovative ways to facilitate change.

You have a systems perspective, and attain timely, economical, and coordinated results. You have worked in an environment where accountability to a broad range of stakeholders was essential and are comfortable and confident in building relationships to realize results.
