The Chapman Group is happy to support one of our amazing clients Dr. V. A. Snow Centre Inc. in finding their Director of Care in Hampton, New Brunswick.

The Dr. V. A. Snow Centre Inc., a 50 bed Nursing Home and 20 unit apartment complex in Hampton, New Brunswick, and are seeking a Director of Care to join their team of professionals. The Director of Care will contribute a high level of care for residents and enhance their overall quality of life.

Reporting to the Administrator, the Director of Care (DOC) assists in maintaining quality care, ensuring adherence to physician's standards and nursing home and governmental policies. They are responsible for supervising and observing direct resident care within the facility and serves as the primary means of communication to the Administrator regarding all aspects of nursing care in the home. Additionally, the Director of Care is accountable to the Administrator for the provision of quality service to the nursing home residents in accordance with the nursing home Mission Statement, operational policies and provincial standards.

As part of the management team and as an advocate for the residents, they take ownership of evaluating and monitoring resident care, services and programs within the quality of service. The management of a budget in care services and 60-70 care staff are included in the responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overseeing high standards of resident care on a daily basis.
  • Oversees and monitors all medical and nursing documentation for adherence to applicable legislation for legibility, relevancy, accuracy, and initiates necessary action to maintain these quality standards.
  • Ensures all necessary nursing and medical responsibilities are completed on schedule.
  • With the Administrator, the Director of Care functions as liaison person between the Home and the resident, and their families ensuring open communication.
  • Oversees the management of, and investigation of complaints.
  • Monitors nursing staff as to competency, aiding and guiding as necessary.
  • Participates in the preparation and delivery of annual performance appraisals for the nursing department.
  • Shares "on call" responsibility as necessary with other administrative personnel.
  • In exceptional circumstances, may be called upon to cover Registered Nurse shifts.

What you'll need

Qualifications

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing
  • A membership with The Nurses' Association of New Brunswick
  • Minimum of three (2) years geriatric experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative ability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Requirement of a History and Physical from the candidate's physician

This is a full-time permanent position. Wage to commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will require a current Criminal Reference Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening.
