The Opportunity
The Director of Human Resources and Corporate Services will lead and oversee the strategic development, implementation, and management of Human Resources, Marketing, and Office Management functions across the organization. This position will lead a team of functional area experts which will shape organizational culture, drive employee engagement, and ensure efficient operational support to meet company objectives. The successful candidate will bring a strong HR background combined with experience in various corporate services, demonstrating a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and support the organization's growth.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
Human Resources:
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive HR strategies aligned with the organization's goals.
- Oversee all aspects of recruitment, performance management, employee engagement and leadership development.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation and manage employee relations matters with a focus on proactive, ethical resolutions.
- Advise and coach management on challenging employee issues and/or conversations.
- Design and manage compensation, benefits, and rewards programs which attract and retain top talent.
- Work with the senior leadership team in organizational design and succession planning initiatives.
- Organize and maintain HR related electronic files and human resource information system.
Marketing:
- Oversee and support an integrated marketing strategy aligned with the company's brand and business objectives.
- Oversee the management of branding, content creation, digital marketing, and communication efforts, enhancing the company's visibility and market positioning.
- Oversee the management of marketing metrics and budgets to assess the effectiveness of initiatives, making data-driven adjustments as needed.
Office Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day management of office operations, including workspace planning and office supply ordering.
- Provide guidance for company events and team building activities.
- Accountable for office expense budget and overall efficiencies.
People Management:
- Manage a team consisting of an HR Lead, Office Manager, Marketing Manager and other corporate services team members.
- Set and monitor individual and functional area objectives, ensuring they are aligned with business objectives.
- Provide broad mentorship and coaching to team members, not necessarily specific to their functional skillset.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is required.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in HR with at least 3 years in a senior management role, ideally with exposure to corporate services such as IT and Marketing.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing HR strategies which align with business goals.
- Strong knowledge of HR practices, Nova Scotia Labour Standards and Human Rights legislation, and best practices in employee relations, talent management, and organizational development.
- Managing to budgets and functions outside your direct expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Experience and/or exposure to Marketing is preferred but not required.
- Experience and/or exposure to safety management is preferred but not required.
- Strong business acumen
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across departments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to decision-making.
