What you'll do

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Financial Services team as the Director, Budget and Financial Reporting. Under the direction of the Vice-President, Finance and Administration, the Director will play a crucial role in overseeing financial management, budgeting, reporting, and coordinating with various departments across the University. The ideal candidate will possess robust financial modelling skills, effective communication abilities, and the ability to lead a team.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing the development and production of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports tailored for both internal and external stakeholders. These reports will require a mapping of financial data to align with reporting requirements.

Additionally, you will be actively involved in the preparation and planning of the annual operating budget, advising Budget Officers on the development of their department budgets. Your responsibilities will also encompass coordinating and preparing budget policies, procedures, reporting, and overseeing budget versions, submissions, and data management. Furthermore, the role will take charge of developing costing models, budget modelling, and conducting other financial analysis.

As the Director of Budget and Financial Reporting, you will take the lead in directing the management of the Colleague Finance module. This includes the maintenance and testing of changes to this module and other software interfacing with Colleague Finance.

As a key member of the Financial Services team, you will contribute to managing aspects of the year-end audit and working directly with the external auditors.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Must have a CPA (Certified Professional Accountant) designation.
  • Proven experience in month end accounting, financial management, modelling and forecasting, budgeting, and reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in financial software. Prior knowledge of the Ellucian's Colleague applications will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • High degree of diplomacy in providing advice and guidance to departmental units and management at all levels throughout the University.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
