MSVU Art Gallery functions as a resource to Mount Saint Vincent University and communities served by the University. It makes contributions to artistic life in general, with a focus on the Atlantic Provinces and Canada. The program emphasis on women as cultural subjects and producers reflects the University's educational mission. The Art Gallery recognizes socially engaged artmaking as the means toward deeper community engagement. In recognition of its civic role, the Art Gallery has introduced accessible practices throughout its public programs.

Responsibilities

The Director of the Art Gallery is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the Art Gallery and the campus community through her specialized knowledge of visual art. Reporting to the Dean of Arts and Science, the Director has overall responsibility for the Gallery operation, including management of the budget; hiring, training, and supervision of personnel; maintenance of Gallery facilities; and oversight and care of the University permanent collection. The Director plans and implements the annual program of exhibitions, publications, and special events, and secures external funding to support these initiatives. She also consults and collaborates with the internal university community as well as with external individuals and groups to support the mission of the Gallery and the University. The Director develops and enacts Gallery-specific policies, with the approval of the Board of Governors.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Master's degree in Visual Arts or Art History, and a minimum of five years' of relevant gallery experience. Previous experience working in an academic environment is an asset.

Classification: Full-Time MPA Position
Starting Salary: $69,872 per annum (Range: $69,872 to $85,011)
