The MERIDIAN (Marine Environmental Research Infrastructure for Data Integration and Application Network) Consortium is developing a research data infrastructure to consolidate and support ocean acoustic data in Canada. This infrastructure will be a widely used resource for the Canadian and international community and is expected to drive innovation while supporting the development of the ocean soundscape atlas for Canada. MERIDIAN will also create a cloud-based platform of analytical tools that are based on various data science methods and techniques. The infrastructure will enable data discovery, data sharing, data integration and data interoperability, as well as interactive data visualization and data analysis for streaming data. As part of this initiative MERIDIAN is seeking Data Software Engineer. The Data Software Engineer shall be technically knowledgeable, organized, solution oriented, creative and resourceful and be able to manage rapidly changing work priorities, work deadline oriented and communicate efficiently.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Data Analyst, Infrastructure in the design, development, building and integration of the MERIDIAN infrastructure.
  • Support the MERIDIAN Data Analysts and Data Managers to implement their data management, data analysis and data visualisation solutions.
  • Test infrastructure, software and tool functionality and make necessary adjustments.
  • Develop specialized software and analytical tools, as well as methods and standards to effectively exploit multiple data sources.

What you'll need

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will have a background in Computer Science or Information Technology and experience working with open source frameworks and tools, data infrastructures, relational database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL), and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop). Demonstrated proficiency with various database programming languages (e.g. Python, SQL, PHP, Ruby) and visualisation systems required.
