The Department of Facilities Management invites applications for the position of Custodial Services - Utility Worker.

Classification: Full-time IUOE Level 4 Position
Starting Salary: $17.32 per hour (Step Progression: $17.32 to $19.50)
Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services and Sustainability, the Custodial Services - Utility Worker provides support to the Custodial Services division while also providing service to the Maintenance and Distribution Services divisions of the Facilities Management department. This position is responsible for waste and recyclables collection, custodial support, transportation of goods and other related departmental duties.

The primary functions of the role are as follows:

  • Waste and recyclables collection
  • Custodial project work, assist with snow removal duties, transport custodial supplies and equipment on campus
  • Pick up and deliver materials throughout campus and also perform pick-up and delivery functions from various vendors throughout Halifax Regional Municipality
  • Assist with safety inspections, provide support to Distribution Services during vacations and peak periods

What you'll need

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Grade XII education and have a minimum of two years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination. A team player with the ability to perform all duties of the position, communicate effectively and demonstrate a willingness to participate actively in ongoing training is required for this position. A positive attitude, adaptability, initiative, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential. Preference will be given to candidates with WHMIS certification and experience in the use of industrial cleaning equipment and chemicals. Flexibility in scheduling is a must as these positions require weekend, shift work and overtime.
