What you'll do

Responsibilities

At Acadia, we recognize that the future is in our people. We inspire students to become the best version of themselves, not just as students, but as human beings. As an employee at Acadia, you'll be challenged to take on work that upholds and pushes Acadia forward. You'll develop as a person and leader in your field, all while helping students realize an educational experience like nowhere else. Generating awareness and engagement is key to that effort. That's where you come in.

As Counsellor/Clinical Therapist in the Acadia Counselling Centre, you will provide direct and comprehensive counselling services aimed at helping students enhance their emotional, psychological, spiritual, and social health. Using a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach, the therapist will conduct assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and manage case files. Familiarity with DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and the ability to perform suicide risk assessments are essential. The therapist will maintain a consistent caseload aligned with best practices in post-secondary mental health care and will apply the Stepped Care 2.0 model to ensure appropriate levels of support. Group therapy design and facilitation will also be an important aspect of the role.

In addition to counselling, the Clinical Therapist will be involved in case management, consultation, and wellness programming. This includes maintaining accurate and confidential records, collaborating with campus partners, referring students to internal and external services, and engaging families when appropriate. The therapist will contribute to the development of student-focused health and wellness initiatives and deliver training and educational workshops for student leaders, staff, and faculty.

The role also involves a commitment to ongoing professional development. The therapist is expected to stay current with trends in student mental health, maintain professional registration, and participate in relevant continuing education.
