Under the supervision of the Director, Opportunity and Belonging (O&B) and in close collaboration with the Office of Recruitment and Admissions, the Coordinator, Opportunity and Belonging is tasked with helping to create a safe and welcoming environment to promote success for NSCAD's student population with a focus on students experiencing barriers to success ("student/s"). The Coordinator works to provide a collaborative environment with campus partners to provide easy access to resources which support students' access, success, retention, and graduation. The Coordinator provides programming to support the institutional aim of building a strong, cohesive and supportive community.

Responsibilities

  • With the guidance of the Director O&B, identifies and implements services that provide student support, advice and referrals related to various issues and challenges unique to International students.
  • Creates and conducts assessments of student services with the goals of assisting students, enriching their campus experience and enhancing their academic success.
  • Collaborates with various campus units to improve outcomes related to the inclusion, retention, and graduation of students.
  • Assists in the creation and organization of services in support of the academic success, persistence, and graduation of students and particularly those students who come from underserved backgrounds.
  • Establishes a community among students by offering an ongoing program of activities to increase student contact, involvement, achievement and overall satisfaction.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to coordinate accessible academic advising for students.
  • Collects information and provides data on academic needs of students.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor's Degree along with experience in serving international students, equity and inclusion and/or related fields, (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Experience and ability to work with a diverse student and campus population is required. Ability to work independently and represent the department at designated university functions is required. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to interpret federal, provincial, and university policies and procedures is required. Bilingual- Mandarin speaking candidate is preferred.
