About Our Opportunity
The Community Engagement Specialist position is accountable for assisting in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of communications strategies and tactics that contribute to internal and external stakeholders' awareness and understanding of NSPHA initiatives, policies, and offerings. Under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Community Engagement Specialist provides communication expertise and support to the Senior Leadership Team. This role will focus on website content management, social media, internal communications, stakeholder engagement, and other corporate communications initiatives.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
- Assists with and/or coordinates the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of communication tactics and strategies.
- Supports the Senior Leadership Team to ensure they are prepared to communicate the Agency's position on sensitive issues to internal and external stakeholders, including the media, the public, and tenants.
- Prepares and updates information for the organization's website and social media channels to ensure members of the public and the media receive timely, accurate information pertaining to NSPHA initiatives.
- Writes and produces the monthly employee update/newsletter.
- Prepares and manages written, digital, and audiovisual communications and promotional materials for internal and external stakeholders by using a variety of media to effectively communicate the department's initiatives, policies, and decisions.
- Supports corporate engagement initiatives to improve awareness and understanding of NSPHA's mandate and priorities, demonstrate accountability, and build trust among key stakeholders.
- Contributes to effective issues management by identifying potential issues through regular media monitoring and analysis and assisting with the development of organizational responses, according to NSPHA policies and procedures and strategic goals.
- Ensures clear, concise communication of NSPHA initiatives, policies, and decisions through planning, researching, writing, and editing of communications products including fact sheets, brochures, reports, and plans.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Completion of a post-secondary degree in Communications, Public
- Relations, Marketing, or a related field plus 2-5 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in providing communications advice regarding a range of topics and issues and providing communications support for a multitude of initiatives and programs.
- Graphic design skills and an including understanding of mainstream and social media, blogs, web, and podcasts.
- Excellent creative writing skills.
- Ability to manage and create content for a variety of social media platforms.
- Working knowledge of the organization's business, clients, partners, and stakeholders.
- Ability to function under high-pressure situations, tight deadlines, and changing priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and implement communications materials that are accurate, well-organized, and creative with the purpose of reaching a variety of audiences.
Assets
- Experience in a unionized work environment or government setting is an asset.

Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency
Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency (NSPHA) is the provincial government agency responsible for the administration and delivery of affordable housing solutions for low-income Nova Scotians.
We contribute to the prosperity of Nova Scotia by helping individuals and families find a home that's right for them, at a price they can afford, in a healthy and vibrant community that offers the services, support and opportunities they need. We accomplish this by working closely with other levels of government as well as private and community partners.
Across its districts, NSPHA provides more than 11,200 safe, affordable homes as part of its Housing Services to seniors and families. District offices manage the day-to-day operations of Nova Scotia's housing stock. Their responsibilities include administering tenant applications and placements, collecting rent, resolving tenant issues, and maintaining and repairing properties.

Classification: MC 15
Salary Range: $66,095.11 - $85,923.10 annually
Work Week: 35 hours
