What you'll do
Reporting to the Department Head, as a member of the faculty team, you are responsible for planning and preparing instructional materials and resources; establishing and managing a positive learning environment; instructing and evaluating students; building and sustaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders, and support applied research efforts in social science; as well as other related duties.
Instructional program courses include various topics in the areas of policing and/or Correctional Operations, such as; Fitness for life training programs, Canadian Criminal Justice System, Criminal Code, documentation and conflict resolution skills, interpersonal behavior and communications, computer applications, and other related courses. The successful incumbent will be willing and able to integrate innovative technology and interactive student applied learning and research techniques into teaching practices.
What you'll need
Required qualifications for this opportunity include a two-year Diploma in a related discipline, with a minimum of five (5) years of recent work experience in the criminal justice field with related experience in policing or corrections; OR a Degree in social sciences or kinesiology or related discipline, with a minimum of three (3) years of recent work experience in the criminal justice field with related experience in corrections or policing.
Related experience must include delivering fitness programs, and two of the following: knowledge and experience in arrest and control, defense tactics including knife defense, restraints or ground fighting. Successful candidates will be required to provide a criminal background check. Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet these qualifications on their resumes.
Written and spoken competence in English is required.
Preference may be given to candidates who have PARE (Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation), COPAT (Corrections Officers Physical Ability Testing) OR PREP (Physical Readiness Evaluation for Policing), experience in PPCT (Pressure Point Control Tactics), SHARP (Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention); and to candidates who have experience teaching in a post-secondary environment.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.

NBCC offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package that includes a competitive salary for this position ranging from $1,973 to $2,780 bi-weekly. Successful candidates may be eligible for a higher maximum step, up to $3,036 bi-weekly, based on their level of post-secondary education. This position is a unionized position where the terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement for the College.
