Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, Student Affairs and Services, the position develops, supports, and executes digital and traditional communications initiatives and engagement activities that support Student Affairs and Services Office's goals and the university's commitment to engaging and effective student communications. The Communications Officer - Student Affairs and Services engages with the Saint Mary's University community by creating compelling web and social media content on multiple platforms, while ensuring the effective and coordinated management of online communities and web presences. The Communications Officer- Student Affairs and Services works collaboratively with External Affairs in the Office of Advancement to help raise awareness of Student Affairs and Services and other campus partners' services to support student success.

In the event that staff are working remotely, or asked to work remotely, during an event that does not allow staff to be on campus physically, job duties must be maintained or adjusted where possible to accommodate working in a virtual environment and maintaining support

Group affiliation for this position is with Administrative, Professional, Confidential (APC) Group. The position is evaluated at a Group Five (5) (salary range 56,283- $72,533). Salary scale can be viewed here.

Qualifications

To be the successful Communications Officer you will possess an undergraduate degree in a related discipline - Business Admin, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or equivalent. A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a communications role, preferably in an educational setting is required. Experience with web content management systems, the ability to research, process, organize and present information interestingly and convincingly along with the ability to prioritize work assignments and deliver by the appropriate deadlines are both required in this position. You must have a collaborative, positive and professional approach to working with teams and colleagues, strong presentation skills with the proven ability to be persuasive and to effect positive change while building strong relationships. You must have excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and negotiate changes in priorities as required.

You must have some experience writing and sending mass email campaigns, writing dynamic, creative copy with knowledge of digital considerations, as well as experience writing for multiple audiences, and specific experience writing for students on different digital platforms. An intermediate level of experience with online tools including, but not limited to MailChimp (email marketing tool), Adobe Creative Cloud, experience with an advanced CMS and intermediate level skills with Loomly or other social media monitoring and scheduling tool. Understanding of academic and administrative structures, advanced understanding and experience with social media and web communications and intermediate to advanced skill level with MS Office (especially Word, Outlook) will round out your qualifications as the successful candidate.
