Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health. 

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians each and every day. We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers and support staff.

EMC is an innovative, fast-paced organization anchored by its talented employees. If you thrive in this type of environment, we are currently seeking a Communications Assistant to join the Communications & Public Relations team for a 12 month term.

The Communications Assistant will have strong verbal communication and inter-personal skills that complement a busy, productive team environment. The successful candidate will possess the following:

What you'll do

Responsibilities

• Content Development - Research, write and edit communications materials such as feature stories, communication plans, content for social media, websites and other internal communication pathways

• Graphic Design - Develop/design content for reports, social media campaigns and posters to support organizational communication campaigns

• Photo/video - provide photography and video support organizationally

• Events - Plan and support special events as required

• Support administration functions for the Communications & Public Relations department

• Ordering and inventory management/distribution of gift and promotional products

What you'll need

Qualifications

• Public Relations degree, certificate or equivalent experience

Excellent writing skills

• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently

• Able to handle multiple tasks in a highly active and fast-paced work environment

• Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines

• Good judgment, airing always to caution

• Strong computer skills. Basic knowledge of website content management, desktop publishing, photo & video capturing

• Experience with SharePoint/WordPress is an asset

• Self-motivated with excellent problem solving skills

• Respect for confidentiality (patient and otherwise). Knowledge of the Personal Health Information Act is an asset

• Understanding of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram

Note: Successful candidate is be expected to have a valid driver's license. Travel within Nova Scotia will be required and occasional evening/weekend work may be required.
