The Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Communications & Marketing Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will play a lead role in raising our public profile, effectively positioning our organization in the regional and national economic, business and policy space. This includes managing our online presence and fostering relationships with media outlets and external partners.
This person will be responsible for translating economic data and research into engaging, accessible content for various audiences, including business owners, policymakers, and the general public. The ideal candidate will also lead our marketing initiatives, particularly in the area of event strategy, and engage with potential supporters to create a funnel of prospective members for our sales staff.
The Communications & Marketing Manager reports directly to the President & CEO.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
Communications
- Public Positioning: Develop and implement communication strategies that effectively position the organization in the public domain, enhancing visibility and reputation.
- Content Creation: Develop and draft compelling website content, press releases, social media posts, reports to members, and other communication materials (such as videos and infographics) that effectively translate economic data and research into engaging content for non-expert audiences.
- Social Media Management: Manage all social media accounts, ensuring content is timely, relevant, and aligned with the organization's messaging and goals. Monitor and respond to social media interactions.
- Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, ensuring regular and positive coverage of the organization's work. Draft and distribute press releases, respond to media inquiries, and arrange interviews.
- Data Analytics: Utilize data analytics tools to monitor and analyze social media performance, email effectiveness, and website traffic. Generate reports to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and provide insights for improvement.
Marketing
- Event Leadership: Lead the strategic planning of events and webinars, determining which events to pursue, their objectives and target audiences, as well as identifying suitable speakers, and developing content to engage the audience. Collaborate with other staff to ensure successful event execution.
- External Relations: Manage relationships with external partners, stakeholders, and collaborators, enhancing the organization's network and influence.
- Prospective Member Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to engage prospective members, effectively positioning the organization's offerings for potential members and supporters.
- Brand Management: Ensure all communication materials maintain a consistent voice and align with the organization's brand and mission.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in communications within a non-profit, research, or economic organization, or other relevant experience that will bring useful insight to the organization.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex information for a broad audience.
- Experience in public positioning and branding is highly desirable.
- Understanding of economic, business, and public policy concepts, with the ability to communicate them effectively, is an asset.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with media and partner organizations.
- Proficiency in social media management tools and platforms.
- Strong tech inclination, with an understanding of data analytics and experience with tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, or similar.
- Experience updating website content and knowledge of HTML is considered an asset.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
