The Opportunity:

Port Saint John is part of the critical transportation infrastructure of Canada and a cornerstone of the New Brunswick economy. Port Saint John is Atlantic Canada's largest port by volume and has a diverse cargo base, handling 30 million metric tonnes of cargo annually, including dry and liquid bulks, break bulk, containers, and cruise.

Port Saint John is seeking a qualified individual for the position Commercial Development Specialist. Reporting to the Commercial Partnerships Manager, the Commercial Development Specialist will complete the following tasks and duties in a professional and confidential manner.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Your Focus:

  • Coordinate with lease holders to perform pre-and post lease inspections.
  • Prepare routine valuation reports and rental proposals. Carry out market rental surveys and review independent appraisal reports. Prepare recommendations to management in support of lease or rental review proposals.
  • Track and analyze market trends (Ex: Commodity pricing, types of ships being built and fuel source, breakbulk/bulk trends) to help shape future port planning.
  • Administer lease and licence agreements of a less complex nature, as well as amendments and renewals.
  • Oversee lease-holder terms and conditions on less complex agreements, supporting enforcement as required.
  • Coordinate with other departments such as Corporate Services, Engagement and Sustainability, and Engineering to complete projects, and assist with departmental needs.
  • Build out business cases and complete financial analysis for new proposed leases.
  • Field inquiries on new short-term lease and licence opportunities.
  • Ensure all appropriate departments are properly kept up to date on changes to leases.
  • Complete lease summaries, and ongoingly advise internal personnel with respect to terms and conditions.
  • Support the Commercial Partnerships Manager with respect to cargo related inquiries.
  • Pre-qualification of initial inquiries related to cargo movements.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

What you'll need

Qualifications

You Have:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or University Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience related to research and building out a case to support recommendation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Transport Canada R2 security clearance or eligible to receive.
  • Strong MS Office Suite skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to be effective independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Inherently curious, and ability to find solutions to problems.
  • High Ethics
  • An ability to work regularly with commercially sensitive information.
  • Fully bilingual in French and English (written, oral and listening) is considered a strong asset.
