What you'll do

Responsibilities

Acadia seeks a Clinical Coordinator in the School of Nursing to provide administration and support to the School of Nursing program. This vital role involves working closely with students, clinical instructors, and external partners to ensure the successful completion of practicum experiences, as well as contributing to various departmental duties.

Reporting to the Director, School of Nursing, the Clinical Coordinator will manage and coordinate all aspects of clinical placements for our nursing students, including preparing, verifying, and organizing mandatory documentation for both the School and clinical sites. The Coordinator will communicate key placement information to students and faculty, ensure contracts and affiliation agreements are up-to-date, and ensure students meet placement time requirements for degree completion. The role involves attending relevant meetings and co-facilitating student orientation sessions, while coordinating with licensing bodies and other academic institutions to secure placement opportunities.

The Coordinator will establish, develop, and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders throughout the region who will serve as sources of workplace development for program students. This also includes relationship-building with external partners such as Nova Scotia Health and the Nova Scotia College of Nurses. The Coordinator will work independently, make offsite visits to regional partners, including in rural or more remote areas, make appraisals and decisions related to practicum selection, as well as contribute to the evaluation of clinical placements to ensure students receive positive practicum.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Experience in coordinating clinical placements or related roles in healthcare or education settings.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, HSPnet, and academic timetabling/placement software (such as Colleague, Acorn) is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
  • Knowledge of healthcare and education systems, including relevant legal regulations such as PHIA, is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently, make quick decisions in emergent situations, and troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • Comfortable working offsite, including travelling to rural and remote locations for site visits.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with external partners, clinical sites, and stakeholders.
  • Experience with data management, reporting, and evaluating clinical placements.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare practices is an asset.
