The Chief Executive Officer enables the Board to fulfill its governance function, serve its members, foster relationships with stakeholders and support new and existing partnerships. The CEO's top priorities are Governance Support and Organizational Development, Financial Performance and Operations, Leadership and Human Resources, and Advocacy and Communications. The successful individual will provide leadership that is focused on collaboration and results with elevated services to its members throughout New Brunswick. Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead the agency inspired by a renewed governance structure and organizational design.
The successful candidate will be committed to drive the sports system and the agency forward. They have a growth mindset, with the ability to see the big picture, build and leverage relationships, and look closely at the operational structures through the lens of a non-profit. They will possess the vigor to initiate change and steward projects through to completion. The CEO must have a hands-on, supportive approach to redefining an inspired workforce, implementing strategic initiatives, and fostering improved services for members. The CEO will work closely with a growing team of dedicated staff.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
The CEO will lead all facets of Sport NB with foresight, integrity and in accordance with defined governance and strategic directions.
1. Governance Support and Organizational Development
- Provide leadership and support to ensure continuance and stability of agency
- Work with Board of Directors to ensure the agency is governed in compliance with its modernized bylaws, policies, and procedures
- Ensure strong policies and procedures
- Provide oversight and direction regarding partnerships, shared services, and amalgamations.
- Oversee design and delivery of programs and services that contribute to agency's mission and reflect established priorities
- Maintain current foundational documents
- Ensure board meetings are supported by comprehensive board information packages
- Ensure effective onboarding of new board members
2. Leadership and Human Resources
- Provide strong and insightful system leadership in the sports sector
- Foster strong collaboration and dynamic relationships with government, private, and not for profit organizations
- Bring leadership and focus to staff for achievement of goals and objectives
- Manage leadership team and provide clear reporting structure and support to staff
- Coordinate effective human resource services to meet organizational requirements
- Oversee implementation of an Operational Plan and annual work plans
- Ensure employee workplans include relevant contractual deliverables
3. Finance Performance and Operations
- Oversee development and adherence to strategic budget and effective reporting to Board
- Collaborate with the accounting leads and the agency's treasurer to oversee finances, safeguard assets, and ensure best practices for financial controls and accounting
- Function as official signing officer for the agency and specific programs where required
- Work with leadership team to manage Operational Plan within assigned budget
- Maintain current Standard Operational Procedures for program areas
- Oversee operations to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources
- Oversee development of government funding and other grant applications
- Oversee all contractual agreements and ensure accountability through proper data collection and reporting
4. Advocacy and Communications
- Coordinate advocacy efforts in the interests of members and the amateur sport community
- Strengthen relationships and communication with members
- Lead strategic communications.
- Represent the agency as spokesperson where appropriate, including the media.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in sport, business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
- Significant senior leadership experience including managing financial and human resources
- Experience in a non-profit organization is considered an asset
- Proficiency in spoken English and French
- Master's degree in a related field is considered an asset
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and lead people
- Expertise to build and maintain a strong organizational culture that values collaboration and quality service
- Ability to provide effective oversight for the support of daily operations and administration
- General knowledge of business practices including the ability to forecast/develop a yearly budget, ensure timely delivery of monthly financial reports to the Board and maintain control of expenditures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to navigate relationships with multiple stakeholders including members, volunteers, coaches, partners, sponsors, and government entities
- Ability to analyze, understand, and act upon complex issues that affects the amateur sports sector
- Solid problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
- Proven ability to implement strategic plans; navigate long-term and short-term initiatives
- Solid experience managing projects
- Successful track record identifying funding opportunities and developing proposals
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products
- Firm commitment to the vision, mission, and core values of the modernized agency
- Positive energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism
- Understanding of the Canadian and Atlantic sport landscape
Working Environment
Typical office environment, as well as attendance at off-site locations to attend meetings on behalf of the agency.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is between $95,000 - $115,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
