We are now inviting applications for the position of Chef Tournant.

Reporting to the Department Chefs and the Executive Chef, the Chef Tournant will assist in the day-to-day culinary operations with regard to event menu design, creation, and execution. Main responsibilities are to assist in aspects of "mise en place" preparation among all culinary stations (i.e. hot, cold, pastry as required) including high-quality menu production, presentation and safety, and resource efficiencies. The Chef Tournant will lead a group of commis with daily tasks and lead the team by example. The ideal candidate must work well independently while contributing to a greater team and enjoy the challenge of excelling under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. Grounded in experience and fueled by passion, you will play a role in delivering memorable event experiences to our guests.

Job Specific/Technical Knowledge

  • Red seal certification in Culinary Arts through a recognized interprovincial agency or international equivalence.
  • 5+ years' experience in volume culinary production with competencies in fine dining.
  • Culinary leadership and experience for menus servicing upwards of 300 event guests without direct supervision World cuisine experience, as well as menu development, is considered an asset
  • Proven communication, organizational, time management, and advanced computer skills.
  • Must be a team player who defines success as high standards for exceptional delivery of service
  • All employees are expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism, personal hygiene, and grooming
  • Must be available to work varying shifts, including evening, weekends, holidays, and "on-call" rotation as required.

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current employees represented by Unifor Local 4005 Union. External applicants and current casual employees will only be considered if there are no qualified bargaining unit candidates

Events East

We manage and operate the Halifax Convention Centre, Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic. Created as part of a government partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Municipality, we work in collaboration with them to manage our business in a responsible and transparent manner.

We were established in 2014 through legislation to operate, maintain and manage the activities of the Halifax Convention Centre in a manner that will promote and develop economic development, tourism and industry in the Province generally, and the Municipality.

Effective April 1, 2017, our mandate expanded to include the continued management and operations of Scotiabank Centre and Ticket Atlantic, formerly under Trade Centre Limited (TCL).
