The Halifax Convention Centre, a business area of Events East Group, is now inviting applicants to be considered as a Catering Captain with our Catering team.
 

What you'll do

Responsibilities

This leadership role helps ensure the effective and efficient delivery of all food and beverage functions, promoting the organization's standards and values with staff to provide the highest guest satisfaction possible. This is achieved through supervising teams, maintaining clear communication with management, staff and other department leads, as well as assisting in the planning, set-up, execution, tear down and cleanup of all catered events. Strong experience with EMS software is key for daily work assignments and regular report generation. Employing expert knowledge in menu and function details, corporate policy and provincial legislation, together with superior service and experience delivery for all clients further defines success in the role. Supporting the safety and security of both staff and guests is imperative actualized through ongoing management as well as training and coaching with new and existing service teams as part of our continued operational growth.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFACTIONS:

  • At least 2 years' service experience within high-volume restaurant or banquet facility operations.
  • Proven abilities in team supervision and/or results-driven leadership is critical.
  • Confidence with making timely and accurate decisions within a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Exemplary knowledge and skills relating to hospitality, food & beverage preparation, service standards, guest relations and etiquette.
  • Technical strengths with Microsoft Office suite, Ungerboeck EMS, as well as POS systems.
  • Ability to work well around a large number of people, functioning in a fast-paced environment, under short time constraints and within established timelines.
  • Able to safely lift/push/pull heavy objects and equipment (up to 50 lbs.) and manage a variety of motions including prolonged standing, walking, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling and squatting.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
