Casual Position (35 hours per week): Commencing approximately February 21, 2023 and ending approximately April 28, 2023

Salary range: $24.78 per hour to $29.10 per hour

This is a designated position open to Mi'kmaq and other Indigenous/Aboriginal people.

This position is located at the Wagmatcook Learning Centre.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

The Strait Area Campus is offering 12 designated seats for in-person learning from Wagmatcook Learning Centre in the Housing Construction Fundamentals Program. These seats are only open to Indigenous applicants.

Reporting to the Academic Chair, School of Trades and Transportation, you will support the Housing Construction Fundamentals faculty in the daily activities of working with and supporting students to achieve the program outcomes.

Daily activities can include, but not limited to:

  • Planning and setup of shop activities directed by faculty
  • Participating in planning and learning sessions as led by faculty
  • Working one to one with students
  • Working with and/or leading small groups

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant college certificate in the construction trades or related discipline.
  • You have a minimum of two (2) years of recent and related occupational experience in supporting students (preference for those who have experience in mentoring Indigenous students).
  • Experience and/or certification in adult education would be considered an asset.
  • Fluency in Mi'kmaq language would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail and classroom technology.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
