The Case Manager is responsible for the analysis, assessment, decision-making, and management of Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD), Waiver of Premium (WP), and Critical Illness (CI) claims. This person must do the analysis and file management under short deadlines in order to meet the established standards while maintaining a good quality of analysis and great customer service.

Responsibilities

Ensure effective records management (STD, LTD, WP and CI)

  • Initial interview with employee/employer and document an action plan
  • A clear and precise action plan along with a proactive approach. Updates and actions are taken in a timely manner
  • Seek medical advice when a request for medical clarification is required
  • Medical information is properly identified, requested and assessed as required
  • Assignment of Rehabilitation Counsellors is completed in a timely manner
  • Case management support with rehabilitation service
  • Consultation multidisciplinary team (physician, lawyer, rehabilitation counsellor, etc.)
  • Letters (written communication) to be written in a professional, accurate, documented and personalized manner

Ensure effective file documentation

  • Use of action plan to keep records current
  • Make the necessary updates in the action plan following receipt of additional information (e.g. : medical report, extension form, discussion with employees/employer and also rehabilitation, etc.)
  • Ensure tasks and follow-ups are followed
  • Updates and follow-up are done on a regular basis

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • University degree in health or related field. Work experience in disability case management will be considered
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar position
  • Bilingualism is required - French and English (oral and written)
  • Must have a good knowledge of contractual terminology and ability to interpret contractual clauses
  • Must have knowledge of disability insurance
  • Must have the ability to work as a team and demonstrate a sense of autonomy
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow procedures for file analysis and management
  • Must be able to prioritize work for quality case management and maintain a great customer service experience
  • Ability to meet specific deadlines
  • Must have knowledge in the use of computer systems
  • Must be able to analyze, good judgment and make decisions
  • Diplomacy and tact
