Reporting to the Manager, Student Development, the Career and Wellbeing Counsellor is responsible to provide short-term career and personal counselling to students, and to support the achievement of College objectives in meeting or exceeding student success and retention. The Career and Wellbeing Counsellor will work as a primary advisor in building personal resilience and linking students to various resources for their personal wellbeing, academic and career success.

Responsibilities

Through individual counselling/coaching, workshops, resource development and other services, the incumbent will act as an advisor in the career planning process, including assisting students in acquiring relevant and current information on careers and labour markets, developing work search strategies, and administering and interpreting career assessment instruments to best position our students in securing employment and long term career success.

This individual will also promote Transitions and Wellbeing Services through the design, delivery, and evaluation of workshops, lectures, exhibits and presentations, geared to supporting overall student wellbeing and promoting a positive post-secondary experience. Key responsibilities related to providing this support will include administering and interpreting wellbeing assessment instruments; identifying or developing required support resources; establishing networks - facilitating connection to and coordination of various campus, community and provincial resources; establishing and facilitating student mentor peer groups and training peer coaches; providing resources to support the work of our students and our partners in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion; and other related duties as required.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Required qualifications for this opportunity include a Bachelor’s degree in social science or related discipline, with a minimum of three (3) years of recent and related work experience; or a Master’s degree in social science or related discipline, with one (1) year of recent and related work experience. Related work experience must include providing direct individual support through career and personal counselling, along with a broad background administering support services for personal and career growth. The successful candidate will also be experienced in providing support workshops and training, working collaboratively and with extended teams to support individual or group success. Candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet these qualifications on their resumes.

Written and spoken competence in English is required.

Preference may be given to candidates with experience working in a related capacity in a post-secondary environment; or who currently possess career and/or wellbeing assessment tools background, training and/or certification.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent.

Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.

NBCC offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package that includes a competitive salary for this position ranging from $58,292 to $70,278. This position is a unionized position where the terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NBUPPE – Education (Consultation and Development) collective agreement for the College.
