What you'll do
Responsibilities
Acadia seeks a Career and Experiential Learning Coordinator in our Career and Experiential Learning Department to fill a 24-month limited term contract. In this exciting role, you will aid in bridging our students' academic learning with professional development, encouraging students to maximize their educational and co-curricular experiences to further their career journeys. You will do this by providing career development services, support experiential learning opportunities for students, and facilitate the co-op program for Computer Science and Mathematics students. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Offer career advising services to students, including assistance with resumes, cover letters, job search strategies, interview preparation, and effective networking, tailored to the unique needs of students.
- Organize workshops, events, and other programs that cater to the diverse interests and career aspirations of students, incorporating industry trends and professional development opportunities.
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with employers to generate opportunities for co-op work terms, part-time and summer work, and post-graduation employment, aligning with the academic focus of assigned disciplines.
- Coordinate student work terms, including developing job postings, managing student applications, and supporting employer hiring processes as necessary.
- Provide support and guidance to students throughout the co-op process.
- Monitor and track student progress during work terms, including working with students to develop learning objectives, conducting virtual or in person site visits, and supporting students ongoing reflection and learning.
- Guide students in identifying and leveraging experiential learning opportunities, both academic and cocurricular, including volunteer work, research projects, and other activities.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is required. Related experience in fields such as work-integrated learning, career and employment services, computer science, or student services would also be beneficial.
- We are seeking candidates with relevant client relationship development/management experience as well as experience in developing and facilitating educational programs.
- A strong customer service focus is required; candidates must enjoy interacting with others and possess excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in prioritizing work in a fast-paced, changing, challenging, and deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of a diverse student population.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications with experience working with databases and conducting web research is required.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide own transportation to off-campus meetings and other work-related purposes and must possess a valid driver's license.
- Candidates must be able to occasionally work outside regular office hours and may be required to travel outside of Nova Scotia.
- Knowledge of Acadia's academic programs and administrative procedures an asset.
